...the N-word in any capacity? In anger, at someone, reading literature aloud, just to say it, expressing what something means to you, whatever. Have you said it?

A Sawx fan shouted the word at Adam Jones, and now people are spewing takes about how this guy should be fined $20,000, anyone who says it should be barred from entering any MLB stadium, should lose their jobs, people are trying to doxx him, etc.

I just want to get a feel for the rate at which people will not be allowed into MLB stadiums and be lining up on the unemployment line.

If I were a black dude and I had a white friend who claimed he never said it, I'd stop being his friend.

When my kids were around 10-11 years old,we were watching an episode of 7th Heaven (A family show),that had an episode dealing with race.The "N" word was used on that show and my son asked me what it meant.

I'm no saint but I think I tried to raise my kids right (he never heard us use that word).

When I was a kid, absolutely. I grew up in a house where that word was commonplace. My parents are/were racists. My father was the out in the open, Elmhurst Steve variety, while my mother is more the dog whistle, bigfan variety.

As I entered adulthood, I realized how awful that word was. The last thing I want, is for my kids to grow up and realize that they learned that garbage from me. They are going to hear it, no doubt. But, it won't be at home.

Great topic, by the way. I can't wait to read the responses from some people. The guy who yelled it at Fenway should not be fined. That's ridiculous. I would have no problem with an ejection from the park.

I'll say there's probably some younger people who have never uttered the word. Thirty years ago it was a slur that was equal to any other slur. It's recently become viewed as a more vile slur than others.

there was a great book by randall kennedy using that word as the title that serves a history of the word, the context, and the racist usage of it. when he was on talk shows he had to call it "the 'n' word". from what i recall he didn't like doing that because it took away from the meaning of the title, and its potency.

I think some still do.

I guarantee all of them have also said it outside the context of rap.
