I've had to fax three documents this week for various reasons because the person or company I was communicating with only gave out a fax number. With things like email and scanning and these apps out there, I'm curious as to why people still use fax. Do any of you still use faxes frequently? |

I hate being forced to use fax to communicate with someone, or being forced to only correspond through snail mail. |

Bagels wrote: i think Les still uses the Barrets Home Theater fax machine Looks to be sunnily-accessible at the moment. We use the fax very frequently ... MANY banks and lenders prefer it. Now, said faxes come in thru our email, so I don't know if that's a disqualifying hybrid. |

It's for when there's a Battlestar Galactica scale computer virus that cripples the internet, you can still fax. |

I have had many docs to fax the past few years but I use efax. You scan the docs on your printer than send them like an email through an EFAX account. It works great. |

I don't have a fax machine at home, so it's a pain in the ass. I have to go into the office to use one. We have eFax numbers where the faxes scan into our email, but I don't know that I've ever given the number out. Seems easier just to take a picture and email it. Edit: what jimmy said |

Generally I think if you've got other options and are still using a classic fax machine (not e-fax) then you're either in your late 90s or you're method acting in preparation for a play set in the 1980s. |

We in the nuclear power industry still have fax machines as part of the Emergency Plan, we contact NRC, State and local Emergency groups in case of a declared accident, first by phone, then with data transmitted by fax. One machine in every Control Room, we found out recently that one page form, hit a "Blast" button to send to multiple recipients, took like 6 minutes to transmit... Our emergency group "war rooms" used to have a white board on the wall that had fax capabilities- a dedicated board writer wrote notes and conditions on the board, then used a sliding optical reader to scan it into a fax, pretty cutting edge for 1974! |

Given your insider info, what are the odds of a nuclear meltdown in our lifetimes? Is everything sharply run there or is it just a matter of time? |

Congratulations Homer, You took a possible Chernobyl and managed to turn it into a simple Three Mile Island. |

You really can't e-mail anything to the IRS, so your options are snail mail, or fax. Surprisingly they are pretty adept and responsive when you fax them stuff. I'm the only person who uses the fax machine at the office. |

Fax is a much more secure method of transmitting sensitive documents than email. Especially for bank info and wire instructions. |
