Is there a real fear that men will disrupt showings of Wonder Woman?

I'm looking forward to it. Did I miss a newsletter?

Yo Wonder Woman, I'm really happy for you, but Snakes On A Plane has one of the best disruptions of all time! Of all time!

Is this about the screening Alamo Drafthouse did for women only?

Yes. I thought there were more.

Post subject:  Re: The Wonder Woman thing

What I find incredibly interesting is that Drafthouse, which is apparently a chain of theaters, has ostensibly stopped announcing women's-only screenings at their NYC property, and are making sure to let everyone know now that it's their Austin theater that is hosting the women's-only nights.

And no, fundamentally, I don't have a problem with this chain of theaters holding a few discriminatory screenings--but that's what they are, and that's what I want everyone to understand that they are: discriminatory. The reasons I'm OK with the practice are all the reasons feminazis have given as for why this "isn't actually sexism": there are only a few screenings, there are plenty of other places for men to go see the movie, even at that theater, and so on.

What makes me not like it, what makes me want to fight against it, is inane shit like this, wherein people scream to the hilltops that it's not actually discrimination, or even if it is, it is "acceptable" because....: http://www.smh.com.au/lifestyle/news-an ... wf39q.html

Here's an experiment:
Quote:
It's a bad argument to make because these few white-only screenings of the movie are not the only screenings in existence. Not by a longshot. They're not even the only screenings at the Drafthouse. If you're a minority who wants to see Wonder Woman there, nobody is stopping you. Just don't go to that particular screening at that particular time.

Discriminatory?

This is great publicity for both the movie and the theater chain.

Why are they doing this? Was there a safety issue once before with men complaining about a comic book movie?

Remember those old-timey promotional stunts where movies would be "so scary, a nurse must be on site to treat customers who pass out from shock" or whatever? This feels like that: a movie so feminist, we preemptively have to protect women from angry Gamergate men.

This is either a genius marketing plan, or some "look at me fighting the patriarchy" bullshit falling ass-backward into a genius marketing plan.

Has the studio said anything about this? I doubt Warner Bros. executives like this kind of shit being so directly associated with their movie.

I have not heard anything about this but reading Doc's post tells me I don't want to know.

Is Lynda Carter in the new one?

Isn't wonder woman essentially about a clueless broad who knows nothing of the outside world nor her own powers who needs a man to teach her that there's a greater world outside her island and needs a man to teach her potential?
Yeah but good movie to celebrate feminism tho

This story combines two favorite groups in the world: dudes obsessed with comic books and I'm-with-her feminists who live on Twitter.

She's heavily promoting it. Wouldn't be surprised if she makes an appearance.

She still looks amazing. Maybe even a Lyle Waggoner?

This is the dismissive tone that I don't get. Is this gender-based discrimination, or not? Is gender-based discrimination bad, or is it not?

I don't know, all the feminist warcry bullshit didn't help the Ghostbusters remake at all so I don't think it's a purposeful marketing campaign.

Nope, the true story is of an Amazonian princess who is sent to the male dominated world to tell them to stop fucking around before they ruin the planet. She was specifically created to be a hero that girls could look up to. I don't like the person playing her this time around because WW is supposed to be an Amazon like 6 feet tall not some petite little jewish girl. I in no way believing she is 5'10"

It is, but not in any meaningful way (anyone can see any other screening) and not for any meaningful cause (it's a comic book movie largely for Chinese people for whom English is a second language).

This is why they're doing this stunt, because women probably want to watch the movie and yell "oh my fucking gawwwwwd beccaaaaaaa" through it without people like Poopcup here coming up and complaining that ACTUALLY this movie is a disgrace to the Wonder Woman franchise because the (((globalists))) miscast the part.

Dudes: can't see a few screenings of Wonder Women
Chicks: literally make less money for doing the same jobs

I think we are getting the better end of the deal.

So now we're at the point where we are deciding which discriminatory practices are acceptable based on their meaningfulness?

And that's fine, that doesn't sound like a bad approach, but then I don't want to hear these same people try to ruin the livelihood of a baker who doesn't want to bake a cake for a gay couple. Go to another bakery, right?

Tell you what then. Let's start a business hiring only women. Instead of 77 cents on the dollar we'll give them 83. We should be able to make a killing, right? Why haven't smarter people than you or I, and with more money, done this yet?
