Post subject:  VEGAS!!!
Dennis' post on going to Vegas with some friends raised this question. Was invited to a bachelor party this upcoming weekend to Vegas. Declined due to cost but also because I can't stand Vegas.

Such a gaudy money pit. However, MANY like the city as witnessed by the MANY absurdly large hotels.

I was wondering if you had a good time. I saw your bowling stuff in another thread. I guess I have my answer. You have to enjoy people watching to deal with the crowds.

Oh, I still had fun. I don't really gamble, so I played slots for a few minutes here and there...probably lost a net total of 60 bucks. I thoroughly enjoyed the Irish pub in New York, New York. Went to a show at the Hard Rock on Sunday, which was fun. And they have a Goose Island pub there, which was awesome.

My biggest gripe is traffic, and people driving like complete shit. Because of the tournament, it was far more cost effective to rent a car, which gave us ample opportunity to find the crepe place Saturday morning. I made my wife drive everywhere.

Nationals is back there in 2019, so we will go back for that, but I'm good with not going again until then.

There was a phase starting my senior year in college where I went 3 year straight. Now haven't been back in 6 years and have no desire.

For such an opulent place with pools, spas, food, fun, etc etc etc it really causes people to wanna go home after 3 days.

Gotcha Boyd. Yeah, we never drive. I keep thinking they really should close the main strip to car traffic. They wasted all that money on overpasses, which make it so hard to get around especially near City Center (Cosmo and related properties).

It remains my favorite spot, but I gamble a lot less than I used to. The sports book is off the charts for people who like to watch games and throw a few bucks down. I also enjoy meeting people at the pool and tables.

Good call. I took my wife twice, and the second time was the last. I treated it like a guys' trip and was drunk early and often. She doesn't drink. Bad mix.

Heck if I'd let what other people think stop me from having a good time. There's such a range of people there. The slots of packed with retired people. I still can't believe how many people are walking around with their kids. The Flamingo pool is almost exclusively 30 years old and up.

The sports book is full of people that you typically see at an OTC betting parlor.

Best I ever did was leaving up $3,000. I hit a $1,200 slot minutes after my cab dropped me off at the hotel from the airport. So that was nice to have that cushion right away. Then it got better. That was a fun trip.

I love playing on house money, especially craps. As I said in another thread, I used to win all the time, but mean reversion has hit me hard. I paid for several trips with winnings. Now I just keep paying.

I had one trip where I lost big, one where I broke even gambling, one where I won enough to cover flight/hotel/expenses plus a couple hundred in my pocket coming home and one where I started to get sick on the plane ride and I proceeded to lurch through the trip with a 103 fever and spent most of the time in my room sleeping.

Back in the day I often went twice a year. That was when Vegas and Atlantic City were the only gambling options. Now between the fact one can gamble anywhere and Vegas has gotten so expensive once every three years is more than enough for me.

Unlike others here, I am perfectly happy going with my wife. She likes drinking and gambling probably more than I do and detests slots as much as I do.
