I wasn't old enough for it but Jack and Arnie in the 60's would have been awesome.

And the proper answer for NFL is 1985-86.

I was going to guess about same thing for golf. Also, NFL was pretty sweet 83-98 or so.

I went with Brady vs. Manning along with a bunch of other elite quarterbacks not named Jay Cutler.

NFL is probably the most difficult though. It's been so good since Namath that there may not be a wrong answer.

NCAAF: Golden until the conferences re-aligned in the 90s
NCAA Hoops: UCLA-1980s
NASL: When the Sting won (and weren't on tv)

Remember that fat kid Chicago was arguing with Russia (or Soviet-controlled Poland; I can't remember) about? He always wore a Sting shirt.

Otherwise, a golden era has to have at least one major rivalry that plays out regularly in the playoffs along with a general high level of play.

For the NFL, the NHL, Olympics & boxing the 70's
MLB the 60's
Golf by ratings the Tiger era.
The NBA is a tossup between the 80s & 90s.
Soccer - tbd.
College sports - now.

SPeeps' dates are better on wrasslin' ... nothing exists if Vince's Rock n Wrestling concept doesn't culminate in Hulkamania.

Tennis is the 80s.

Boxing was just fine mid 60's to very early 90s.

Soccer had its chance in this country in the late 70s early 80s.

Baseball in the 1920s? That's worse than saying Bob Cousy is better than Pippen. Baseball was top notch from the late 60s thru the '95 season.

I'll take 80s/90s NFL ... 80s/mid-90s NHL ain't too bad either.

Basketball is unquestionably the 90s, as previously indicated ... agreed on Tiger, though it could be argued that watching golf for just one person is not as great as watching for MANY in the field. Then again, it's golf, so who gives a damn anyway.

94% of sports journalists agree with you. I will link to a source next week (I can't access that proprietary information at this time).

which is why college football once was the king of sports--and it did so in its regular season, often but not always on Rivalry Weekend. now some of these teams don't even play.

Michigan-White Trash U
ND-USC
Nebraska-Oklahoma
Iron Bowl
Red River Shootout
ND-Miami
Bedlam
World's Largest Cocktail Party
Miami-Fla. State
Texas-Texas A as well as M
Pitt-Penn State used to be big
Georgia-Clemson used to be big....

So many more.....plus the biggest of all, the fight for the Illibuck. Sorry, but fuck the West Coast

A team was broken apart that won 6 titles with only 1 player who was more than a borderline top 100 player!

Boxing - without question was the 1970s from Joe Frazier, beating Ali in 1971 to the emergence of Larry Holmes as champ in the late 70s.

Soccer - When England plays Germany in the World Cup.

How many Top 100 all-time players do most NBA champions have? How many does Golden State have?

And I'm glad you got my point. If you think that the NBA came to a screeching halt when one guy retired, you might be somewhat biased in favor of that guy.

Tyson was a great fighter, but there was no where near the talent during his time compared to 70s. Larry Holmes, as a younger man, would have beaten Tyson. Tyson never wanted any part of George Foreman. When Tyson did fight a good fighter in Holyfield, he got beat.

There are plenty with one or two. There aren't many with six titles while only playing with a borderline top 100 player. You can go ahead and name the others if you want.

 There aren't many that have won six at all. Two teams have had runs like that and naturally the players in each respective season were somewhat different. The team that won eight probably had four or five Top 100 guys. The team that won six maybe had two (possibly three on some of the teams) Top 100 guys. And the team that won eight played in a time when the talented was divided among only eight teams.

And you're conflating two different things- judging a guy's entire career after he's retired and judging a guy's peak productive seasons when he was on a championship team(s).

Maybe this is something you'll understand. Kyle Schwarber isn't one of the Top 1000 baseball players to ever play, but he sure played like one in the 2016 World Series.
