Mountain Munchies is a cool tiki bar along the Fall (roaring) River. Chicago's Best actually has a pretty good pizza.

Make sure you hike along Sprague Lake, and take the Fall River Road as high as the weather will allow you to.

I was just in Estes Park about two weeks ago. Obviously the biggest draw there is the Rocky Mountain National Park. There's lots of beautiful scenery and stuff to do there, which I'm sure you know about.

The town of Estes Park on its own is crap. It's just a giant tourist trap lined with shitty t-shirt shops and bad restaurants. The traffic in town is insane and it takes 30 minutes to travel about a mile at certain times of the day. I've had better luck driving the Las Vegas Strip.

I would stay somewhere else and just pass through town if you're headed to the park.

We rented a cabin outside town... planning on rafting one day, national park hiking a couple days, off roading another day and that leaves a couple days downtime to find some other local treasures.

A cabin outside town is definitely a good way to do it. Sounds like you got a good plan for taking advantage of everything the park has to offer.

There's not really any other towns within 20 miles, but Lyons had a couple decent places to stop including Oskar Blues Brewpub and a Distillery. There was also a couple dispenseries in Lyons (none in Estes Park though).

i was there w/ my ex about 10 years ago and drove up it.....i made it about 3/4 the way to the top before I had to turn around. I'm not really scared of heights but I was seriously white knuckling it and sweating bullets. No guard rails and you just peek to your right and see a drop of what looks like eternity. Then there were tour buses that were going 80 like it was nothing, while i'm doing 20 and scared for my life

Yeah, that was some scary shit, but we made it to the highest elevated spot on the road and then headed back down. There's really some breathtaking sights to take in up there, and during this time of the year it was only about 60 degrees at the high altitude, while it was about 90-95 in Estes Park.

Nice place.
We started off last Sunday in Lincoln while we watched the weather channel and decided which way to go for the eclipse. Ended up in Grand Island if anyone caught tbat from the eclipse thread.
Stayed in big springs Nebraska on Monday night and I was scared shitless in that town. Every one had that weird blank children of the corn look about them and the hotel smelled like dead hooker vagina.
Anyway coming thru to Estes along the river on rt. 34 was really cool.
Had the tours and dinner at the Stanley. I didn't know dumb and dumber was filmed there and was equally surprised that they were bragging about it but the bar with the we landed on the moon! newspaper was pretty cool. Enjoyed a few local beers there. Fucking bartenders name was Lloyd. He said it was his middle name. I think he lied.
But the real highlight was trail ridge road. Holy shit that drive is frigging terrifying. 12,800 feet at its highest. Amazing views, got to see some moose (swimming with calves) and shit loads of elk and a big horn sheep. That was the best of the suggestions made by you fellas, so thank you. We went up and then down the western slope and did a day trip on thst side of the divide and came back up and down the east slope in late afternoon. Cool fucking drive. Loved it.

Douchebag couldn't be more right about Estes downtown. Went one day and that was enough. Scouted the local maps to find ways around that from the rest of the way out.
