Illinois giving the federal government the big middle finger on its immigration crackdown. It's been signed into law by Rauner. "The new law will essentially make it impossible for Illinois police to notify Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) when they have a suspected criminal illegal alien on their hands, thus increasing the possibility that they will be freed back into the general public. The sanctuary state law also makes it illegal for local law enforcement to arrest an illegal alien, even if the individual is wanted by ICE for immigration violations." http://www.breitbart.com/texas/2017/08/ ... state-law/ Clearly, there needed to be a more humane solution than deporting the illegals in the middle of the night, and this should at least buy some time before there is a response by the feds. Very patriotic for Illinois to be standing up to the federal government and its overreach. It's about time. |

If you have a clean record, you can re-up for another year. 3 years in a row and you can try for citizenship. |

Nice stimulus bill for human smugglers and shady stateside outfits paying slave wages to trapped immigrants. People's government at work! |

For me, make the new law or keep the ones we have and enforce the shit out of either one. I am about done with all the political BS from both sides on this matter. |

America wrote: Nice stimulus bill for human smugglers and shady stateside outfits paying slave wages to trapped immigrants. People's government at work! This is a mis-characterization. They want to be here, because the wages and quality of life is better than wherever they come from. First of all, to target and ship them out heartlessly is no act of justice. They should be entitled to appear before a judge, even if if the immigration courts are overloaded. It's goes against the Constitutional and fundamental human right to due process, that one should be able to face his accuser. This is not happening. I'm not saying that what they've done is right, just that they're entitled to plead their cases on their's and their families behalf. How is arresting these people any better than the round-ups of the Jews that occurred under the Nazis? If we deny these illegals due process, then we are hypocrites at the core. And who will be the next to be rounded up, for one reason or another? There is a slippery slope leading to totalitarianism. Let's not take away the dignity of the Mexican people and others from Central America, as Trump has sought to do. |

Where did I write about these people being sent to the gas chambers or even invoke that comparison, pittmike? I was talking about the rounding-up tactic of the Nazis and how they denied the jews any justice. It seems to me like you are taking the stance that the Mexicans are somehow "untermenschen" that deserve to be denied fundamental human nights for their plight of trying to make their lives better. I know the Mexicans, have taught them in school, and eat all the time in their restaurants in my area and in Aurora. I think they're fundamentally decent family people who like their soccer. |
