They're calling from numbers that have the same area code and first 3 digits of your telephone number. They're usually selling some home or internet security. Someone must have done some research on this because at first I answered 100% of the time and even now I still answer too much.

There is something about seeing a number that looks familiar that makes you answer. Then you realize why it looks familiar. I answer all calls though. I tried to block these but they just change the last 4 digits.

I usually don't answer but sometimes they get me as I'm expecting a call. Others leave voicemail. Like Nas I've blocked enough but they cycle through.

I have an out of state cell phone number so these are easy to spot. So, MOVE.

I use this occasionally. I think it's referred to as local ANI.

This.

If the call is important, they will leave a message. Otherwise, I don't give a fuck.

No message, it gets blocked as spam.

Keep laughing. I pay about 30 bucks a year for a home phone.

Telemarketers are doing the same stuff around here. With both of our parents local and elderly, it is difficult to blow off a call - especially if it is from the same town.

You never know if it is a neighbor, cop, nurse, etc. Me and Mrs. GF have no choice but to answer every call that seems to be legit. It sucks but it is what it is

I initially read this as "Me and Mrs Girlfriend" and I was about you call you 'PittMikeFella'

Then I figured out who Mrs GF was.

This started with me a couple months ago and it sucks because all the work phones for our facilities have the same area code and first 3 digits and I don't have them all memorized.

So, now I have to let them all go to voicemail.

They are spoofed numbers.

Post subject:  Re: New Telemarketing Trick

They are spoofing this because services like nomorobo and Ooma can't put them on community blacklists as they are valid residential numbers. Most likely when you answer, you get your extension added to the spoofing list.

Fortunately, there is nobody I want to talk to who has my prefix, so they're all going to VM.

What I don't get is why do people telemarket anyway?
Has anyone here ever bought something from a telemarketer?
Do you know anyone who has?
It has to have the worst ROI of any marketing plan.
