Last Saturday I was taking care of things, like mailing my brother his birthday present, when I stopped at a house having a sale. In the front yard was a white bicycle with two flat tires, a broken brake and some rust. The guy was asking $35 and I gave him $30.

It turns out the bike was a vintage '98 Diamond Back dirt bike. It cost me $10 to have it fixed up and now looks good as new. The tires were fine after putting air in them. I've been told the bike is worth hundreds of dollars, like four or five.

What's your best find at a garage/yard sale? Anything that would put you on Antique Roadshow?

Once saw an old man sitting in a garage staring at kids.

It was sick.

My grandfather gave me some signed baseballs that he got at a garage sale back in the 80s. Two of them are team signed balls
by the Red Sox with Ted Williams autograph on them. Another one I figured out had Roger Maris' autograph on them. No idea
what they are worth but I need to get them appraised at a card show or something one of these days. No idea what he paid for
them but I am pretty sure it wasn't much because he was a pretty cheap guy and the people obviously didn't know what they
were selling, but I am guessing he did.

Wow, miss one thread and get called a pedo...

Sometimes there are cool old knick-knacks and things at garage sales. I just can't bring myself to go to a garage sale often. It feels weird pickling thru someone else's stuff while they watch you.

cowherd tells an amazing story about having a garage sale and trying to sell a huge mirror. it was like a wedding gift that was like 1000 bucks retail or some crap. he put 50 on it. a guy proceeds to ask some questions about it, leaves, comes back with more questions, leaves, then comes back a 3rd time and says he'll buy it. hand cowherd 50 cents. cowherd is like 50 cents its 50 dollars! you mean to tell me you've driven here 3 times to ask questions about a mirror you thought only cost 50 cents???

its funny because its really what happens. we did one at our old house, i told my wife never again.

she's has 2 and i've not helped at all. i only have 1 rule, its not allowed to be IN my garage. i don't need any of these idiots scoping out all my shit.

Hosting garage sales are great. It's some of the best people watching you will ever have in your life. What's so bad about sitting in your garage all day drinking beer and watching some of the weirdest people you have ever encountered?

Growing up in Schaumburg the subdivision we lived in had a dedicated garage sale day. Literally hundreds of garage sales. It was fantastic. Loved it as a kid. There was the dirty old bastard with 70s playboy for sale, plenty of transformers, bike parts, baseball cards shit like that. It was a lot of fun.

Spend $5 on beat up, broken Craftsmen tools.

Take them to Sears and cash in on the lifetime warranty.

(Results currently may vary)

The number 2 rule is anything that doesn’t sell is donated or thrown out. Nothing goes back in the house.

People across Fulton County do this for two weekends in the fall. It's pretty cool (and part of the Scenic Drive weekend).

Last year I found a few White Sox pins that I had never seen before and an kick-ass flannel shirt that has made its way into my regular rotation. And for a dollar, I got this awesome Life magazine and had an amazing conversation with the owner of the house. I've always read a lot about JFK's assassination, so I was really happy to get this:

so 2 of the legends had tips broke off. i called st croix and all i paid was shipping to them and they replaced them for free.

i'm a fenwick guy for most of my stuff, but my st croix vertical jigging rods are the greatest things on the planet.

The only rods I use are St. Croix. Just perfect for me. For my kids and others that I might bring along I have Ugly Sticks. They are magic for amateurs.
