As has often been said, Washington, or in this case Springfield, is Hollywood for ugly people.

Can't wait to see what politicians get outed for this. Would cry tears of joy if Mike Madigan or Cullerton gets implicated.

I always heard it was a place where everyone but the most disciplined became alcoholics or sex addicts. Lobbyists employ otherwise unaccomplished young women to be their closers on deals.

I knew of a guy who was a state legislator and only held the office because he married into a political family. He cheated on the wife while down there with another state legislator. The family he married into was connected in more ways than just politically and while side pieces were culturally acceptable, it wasn't as true to cross the daughter of the local boss. Anyway, the female legislator aspired to greater things. The family encouraged it and she got trounced as their support never materialized on election day. She no longer holds any office. The male cheater was moved from a state office to a nondescript local elected office, as they weren't going to make his children orphans. He still aspires to higher office and tries to create his own press but never gets any traction.

In Royko's book on Daley he writes of Richard I early days in Springfield and how disgusted he was at shenanigans family men engaged in. It seemed like he used that as a litmus test for holding a position in his inner circle his entire life. You could rob the public blind but do not step out on your wife.

Yeah, one of the big reasons we need term limits. I've heard a lot of the long time elected legislators look at it like a 150 day vacation per year where they can hang out in gin joints and fuck around while not really doing anything meaningful for the state.

You can see why the disciplined people rule down there.

Sounds like Madigan is the Bill Belichick of legislators: a bright guy who ascends to incomparable genius because all his peers are so useless.

In the world of the blind, etc.

Let the flood gates open.

https://www.nbcchicago.com/blogs/ward-r ... 91423.html

Ira Silverstein, prominent senate democrat, now accused of sexual harassment. And the complaint was filed with the senate a year ago, but of course there was no response from Cullerton.

The best part was that Cullerton told her it would be "taken seriously" and that it would be reported to the Legislative Inspector General's Office. Problem is, Illinois has been without an inspector general for a number of years. And of course, Madigan, the most powerful state legislator in the nation, has heard nothing on it until now

Our state is so damn slimy.

That is a funny one. He is an orthodox jew whose seat is held almost entirely by being prominently religious. His wife is an alderman. The longtime alderman who she beat to win the office called her an old hausfrau during the dirty election.

Yeah, Queen Debra is my alderman and Ira is my rep. They're pretty useless. Still, I watched that video and the broad seems like she's crazy. As if the Assembly owes it to her to pass her bill. Her evidence of "harassment" is a voicemail where Ira says she's probably "working on her sixpack". Give me a break.

I agree that her claim is not on the same level as what Weinstein did, but I think this is just the beginning. The fact that Cullerton and Madigan likely covered this up or at least just ignored it will only make it worse. And from what the longtime rumors have been about Springfield basically being like Las Vegas for these people, I think a lot more is coming down the pike.

Where's the fun part of Springfield? When I was there it looked like a more depressing Woodstock.

WWE superstar D-Lo Brown owned a minor league arena football league team there but it didn't finish the season because his co-investors seemingly took his money and left with it. They went 0-12.
