I watched this last night and was further reminded of just how insufferable Jann Wenner and his band of merry Baby Boomers are. This thing really underlined just how irrelevant Rolling Stone has been since the mid-seventies. These fuckin' Deadheads completely missed on punk and rap, the two most important movements in rock since Sgt. Pepper. They went straight from Led Zeppelin to NSYNC. Guys like Chuck Young and Alan Light were trying to drag the rag in the right direction, but Wenner just didn't get it. "That's not Dylan, man." Not to mention that Rolling Stone created what they call "gonzo" and I call "byline journalism" which isn't really journalism at all but rather serial memoirism. |

I recall looking at their reviews at book stores occasionally. every fucking new album would get 3 or 3.5 stars (out of 5). the only 5 star albums were reissues like Pet Sounds or something. |
