Last night they were calling for 2-3 inches of snow here in SE Wisconsin. Got up and there was 6 on the ground. Actually
surprised most of the schools are closed but I am guessing the back roads are pretty bad. Still got a couple of hours before
it stops snowing and moves out. I'm guessing the IL northern burbs got hit by some of this as well.

About the same in Gurnee...Roads were fine...it's that wet, heavy shit, but it's going to be like 45 again on Saturday, so, yeah.

Maybe 1/2 an inch out south, but it was enough to torpedo the morning commute.

Just the a thunderstorm out here and a bunch of rain. Felt like spring. Kind of nice.

We had a strong SW wind burst last night around 10pm, took down a pretty big branch of the maple tree in front of our house and twisted our TV antenna 90 degrees. Now we're lined up to watch Milwaukee and Chicago rather than South Bend and Chicago. I was going to go up and straighten it out this morning, but a couple of inches of slippery snow have changed my mind.

Cold and snow is going to be the story for next 10-14 days. A few systems could produce totals of 4-10" of snow total from Saturday thru Wednesday. Saturday afternoon, evening, and night appears to be when the worst of the snow will fall. Next weekend there appears to be a chance at a snowstorm as well. Saturday should see temps in the low 30s, but other than that it doesn't appear that we will see anything above freezing until almost Valentine's Day :(

If it could hold off until Sunday morning that would be great. I want my free furniture dammit!

I just need to be able to fly out of O'Hare Sunday at 7:30 am. Don't care about anything else after that.

these guys do a pretty good job forecasting, but i have found their site to be WAY to in-depth and wordy. Most of the time i just want a quick gist of what i can expect, and they tend to break it down pretty deep (although this linked article isn't too bad). They are also very self-congratulatory when they make a good forecast and seem REALLY thin-skinned when they are criticized if they get one wrong. My wife and i follow them on Facebook and they get to be a bit much with all the updates and posts.

Got back from out of town where it was 80 on Sunday and came back to 5 inches of snow.

I despise winter.

I would agree...they are kinda of attention whores in that regard. Their strategy, if you predict the extreme on EVERYTHING when you are right, you are a superhero, if you are wrong, they just fall back on the "better safe than sorry!" excuse.

They also have a mini cult following on Facebook, so if you criticize them, expect one of their fans/lemmings to really go keyboard warrior on you.

We have the exact same opinion, that is why we still follow them. The comment wars are awesome.

The AccuWeather app on my phone says 2"-4" for Friday and 1"-3" for Saturday. I take it other places are predicting much more?

Predictions of amount more than, say, a half a day or so are more or less throwing darts. Noon tomorrow will give a significantly more accurate call on it. Hopefully it will fizzle down to a minor incident.

Post subject:  Re: Stormwatch 2018

I believe the current forecast has the southern and western suburbs getting hit with more snow. If that forecast holds true, it will likely be 4-6" north of I-88, and 6-8" south of I-88. But as DT said, tomorrow there should be much more certainty. Snowstorms are notoriously hard to predict as a bit more or less wind, or a temperature change of as little as 1 degree could significantly change things.

Not sure if WYC worthy as it is just weather, but as I look at app (zip downtown Chicago), it states same as your phone. Just below is a "Snowfall Probability" for Thursday to Friday stating 4 - 8 inches. One would think that the total of the daily breakdown should equal the total in the "Snowfall Probability".

Yesterday the total in Snowfall Probability was at 6 - 9 inches. Trending down, so we got that going for us.
