I read this board all the time and I have read many horror stories about the FBI. From the malfeasance of J. Edgar Hoover to the attacks on American citizens at Waco and Ruby Ridge and on and on and on. Regular Reader loves to talk about COINTELPRO. Democrats and liberals have been suspicious of the FBI my entire life. Until now.

Ain't it a trip? These waterbrains are just emboldening what will be Mike Pence's FBI/CIA/NSA. Maybe J. Edgar Hoover was actually a good guy all along because he was LGBT.

People talk about Putin using compromising info on people to hold power over them. I'd imagine Hoover did the same thing with US Presidents. It's the only way he survived through countless administrations.

Read a few books over the years which dealt with Hoover. He would routinely keep dirt on just about every President. He had FDR and Eleanor having affairs while in office. FDR was sleeping with a secretary and Eleanor supposedly had a former NAVY guy on the side. Of course he had dirt on the Kennedys. Can't remember what he had on Nixon but they were sort of chummy so he was a little more hands off with him.

I remember reading where the Italian mob had dirt on him. They knew that he was a homosexual and liked to cross dress. Even had pictures. They also knew about him and Clyde Tolson. Frank Costello supposedly was in charge of handling Hoover. There was speculation as to this being the reason for the FBI's decades long denial of an existence of the mob. They were blackmailing him.

They also allegedly used to make payoffs to Hoover. They knew he liked to bet the horses. They'd make payoffs to him by fixing horse races. He'd have FBI agents place bets on the races in which the long shot was going to win. Since the mob controlled much of the gaming industry at the time it was easy for them to fix the race.

I don't revere law enforcement and I don't fetishize the military.

Trump's idea of rolling a hundred tanks down Pennsylvania Ave is utterly absurd, and frankly, offensive. But I feel like our current political environment is like a ridiculous high stakes poker game. Trump says or does something somewhat outlandish. Then the Democrat/liberal response is even more outlandish (e.g., pretend Trump's parade = Tiananmen Square) to which Trump responds with an over-the-top asinine tweet, and ultimately at some point the Dems go ALL IN with some nutjobbery like Putin ordered the parade.

I do think the parade, for us ,is strange but here is a question. We have local parades on some holidays where the military is involved and we have them involved with sports games? Why not a parade on a national holiday, like the POTUS is suggesting, so offensive?

Because large scale military parades in the capital are usually connected with asshole regimes like North Korea (see yesterday), USSR, and the Nazi's.
