Has to make your work easier.

I don't think it does anything really to my sector.
I guess higher pricing on import parts and certain popular Mitsubishi ductless systems.

Will the Republican-led Congress do anything other than send sternly worded letters?

I think there's a fair chance they actually will do something to curb, if not outright eliminate, this stupidity.

Try not to upset Trump and hope he changes his mind.

They'll need democratic help. That's probably not going to happen.

Thankfully the tariffs are pretty much a toothless publicity stunt. They are still fucking idiotic, but they could've been much worse for our economy.

I think the tariffs don't even tax imports from the places where we actually get our steel, which is good. It's just for show to appease his slack-jawed base.

The markets went up when they saw it is just a stunt

The Dems are currently assisting in rolling back Dodd-Frank in the name of bipartisanship, so I'm sure they'll have no problem helping out here.

Yeah, I thought I'd seen something in passing about that. How delightful.

Because they need 2/3 of Congress to override the president on this. That's what I believe I read.

If Democrats won't join Republicans when the opportunity to stick it to Trump presents itself, they deserve to be where they are, power wise.

Unless I missed something, the only countries exempted (temporarily) from the tariffs are Canada and Mexico. They represent approximately 25% of the imported steel. Trump is demanding concessions from the EU as well as a re-negotiation of NAFTA to exempt our closest allies. The EU has already called the tariffs “stupid” and stated they will respond in kind with “stupid” tariffs on U.S. imports.

Oh the Germans don't like it when a country with a larger economy bullies others? That's pretty rich. I'm sure they dont feel the same way about when they unilaterally decided the steel industry in their empir--economic union should all be concentrated in Deutschland.

The Germans are pretty good at being the economic bully.

Yep. Let’s face it...a tariff is just another word for a tax. It guarantees that prices on affected items will go up. And it’s not just going to be a penny on a can of soup. It’s already affected housing prices when they slapped a tariff on soft woods - which was largely ignored by the general public. The industries Trump is trying to prop up (coal and steel in particular) are not coming back. He needs to stop living in the 80s, despite the era’s great contribution to music.

I stay out of politics for the most part but ag is getting real nervous lately. Corn has managed to get up to 4 bucks a bushel recently for September contracts which is a big plus over earlier in year but NAFTA goes away... I’d hate to see it. And if the steel in the equipment I need goes up..
Well, the impact will be a lot more than what that idiot stated about Campbell soup.

Yes, I’m slightly intoxicated so my typing is worse than usual.

Nobody is better. Why do you think 4 of the 9 (counting Luxembourg) countries they border wont adopt their new Detuschmark? The Poles and Czech's are wise to this shit and Denmark has seen enough to know what it looks to be on the menu.

It doesn't even bother me except for the obvious duplicity. Life under German rule is vastly superior to living under the American nightmare with pozzed liberals literally crying over a tweet while a racial hate group carries out repeated terror attacks against police to raucous applause. Like every other civilized country in the world except maybe the Canadians and spineless UK, the German leaders admire the job Trump is doing 1000 times more than his predecessor but admitting that is political suicide.

Well, I tell impact me a lot more than a can of. Hi Ken noodle soup impacted that idiot.

It’s not a question of if. It will go up. In fact many items will go up more than they should because manufacturers are smart enough to know this is an opportunity to hide price hikes. Guaranteed.

Let's see what happens. I tend to like he actually has the balls to do this. Other Presidents wouldn't buck the establishment like this. And NAFTA, he now wants to 'renegotiate' NAFTA. Let's see what that means. He promised during the campaign we'd be already out. :-x

Yep. I know. 8k pounds of steel is a bit more than the tin in a can. And manufacturing will take it S a way to get a couple extra bucks on the dollar, just like General Mills did when corn ran up.
