I’ll leave this question to my cfmb brethren. My neighborhood started a softball team and me being one of the better bags players accepted the role of pitcher. This is c league, bottom wrung. We are getting crushed 14-2 in the fifth inning approaching a mercy rule. One hitter on their team is clearly more advanced than everyone else. He crushed a home run that literally broke the score board. He probably hit that ball 40 feet deeper than anyone else. The guy has also taken two other balls deep off the fence. All opposite field. All very close to each other. I’m a first time pitcher so more or less grooving balls in to avoid walks. No tricks, funky spin or deception. Literally slow pitch batting practice. He hits a laser right back at me. Drills me in the shin. Obviously he can’t control hitting me in the shin. But I’m convinced he took a shot at me. My stance is he can control not drilling the pitcher. What says you... Did this turd take a run at turd. |

Always that guy... Played in C league roller hockey for quite a few years. Found that you are always going to have at least one guy on each team that thinks there is still a scout in the stands looking for him. Fuck it and put that 12 inches right in his cheek. |

If you are playing 16-inch, you might as well just play basketball. |

Gets real aggravating. True story, this fucker spent an entire game cross-checking my back. Scores a goal and does the "ride the horse" bullshit on his stick. Next shift, he comes from behind the net and loses control of the puck, I get it and score. Took my glove off and flipped him off the whole way back to the bench. He kicked the shit out of me, but I think he got the point. |

You have to learn how to field your position. Hitting the ball back up the box is old school. Wear a helmet and a cup from now on. |

You have to be fucking completely brainless to pitch 12" slowpitch, not to mention throwing meatballs to boot. |

Been pitching 12" for 24 years, he probably meant it. Any good 12" hitter can avoid hitting the pitcher and if they fuck up and hit it you they usually won't even run it out and will apologize, at least if it's not some ultra competitive do or die moment and the guy isn't a douche. Someone may buzz the tower on you if one of your guys shoots the box though, make sure you have guys on your team that can do the same. Knock on wood, I've never been hurt pitching, but I have been knocked the fuck out running to first on a bad throw from short and had 3 teeth knocked out going 2nd to third on a bad throw from the OF. This year I will be pitching with a lacrosse helmet though after a dude in Fla got killed pitching. The reflexes at 43 aren't as sharp and there's too many assholes with tampered bats to risk it. |

I’ll accept brainless, but I’ll be back out there next Monday. I’m going to guess there aren’t going to be any volunteers to pitch after that. |

I used to pitch 12" slow pitch. As soon as I would release the ball, I would backpedal off the back of the mound. It allowed me to get the ones up the middle easier because our second basemen sucked. And if someone was shooting the box to be a dick, I had a few more microseconds to react. |

I do fast pitch in summer and the pitchers are starting to wear masks after one took one off the face a few years back. One guy last year got drilled in the leg on back to back hitters. Not do purposeful in that situation though. As a shitty second baseman there are some hitters that I play pretty far back because they are slow and just absolutely demolish the ball. I took a throw off the head a few years ago skidding into third. Ball went about 50 feet into left. It was a bit dazing. I’m getting to old for this shit. |

I pitched 12-inch in my early days. I had a guy with average build that launched 2 HR's off me like I never witnessed in any game ever! Towering line drives,I tell you. After he hit the first one,I brushed back the next batter. It accomplished nothing since we were playing slow pitch, but my teammates giggled. ![]() Sounds like you were playing a "ringer". |

going back up the middle in rec league is generally frowned upon. that said, i go everywhere, and there are times when i go back up the middle and i'd say i have a ton of control usually. but usually what happens is I a hit a ball at the 2b when i mishit backside. most of the time they apologize. my guess is that if he didn't, he isn't a ringer or he's just an asshole. I know a few guys who don't play enough to know the "protocol" and are just donkeys who kill the ball. Get yourself a facemask. they are pretty cheap. softball isn't worth a serious injury. and yes as soon as the ball is released get into a defensive position on either side of the rubber. |

Why would he do it on purpose. He wanted you to pitch more innings. |
