So, this sales guy from AT&T came by a couple days ago. He rang the doorbell and my dog went nuts, as usual. Anyway, while I'm holding my dog back and pushing the door open to greet the guy, he gets this fake, cheesy smile and jokes "that must be the killer dog all the neighbors are complaining about!"

My question is... do you think it's wrong to shoot him on the spot after a comment like that or should you just kick him off your property?

There is no excuse for that joke.

Depends, if he is selling AT&T's fiber Internet service, then you should buy what he's selling. If he's selling their DirecTV, cell phone, or any other service, then the Castle Doctrine applies.

We have a nonsoliciting sign. Don't make this weird for both of us. Don't knock. I'll just close the door.
Or better yet dont answer it.

Horrible joke aside, the guy actually got pissed when I told him repeatedly I wasn't interested and closed the door. Look, if you're gonna hustle door-to-door, you can't get pissed when someone isn't interested.

Honest answer, get a Ring, then you can tell him to fuck off without leaving your couch

Home phone/internet companies still go door-to-door?

I disconnected the doorbell wires when one of the kids was still a newborn so it wouldn't wake him up. Its worked out so well I haven't reconnected it. Mother fucking Jehova was over again this weekend.

You should have invited him in for some pretzels and shrimp sauce.

I enjoy talking with the Jehova people when they knock on my door. I don’t get much time to converse with people in real life so they give me an opportunity. They are always very nice people and very courteous. I had one memorable conversation with a very old Jehova woman where she said Herbert Hoover got a bad rap.

Yep, and in my case I am holding two dogs back. So if one of them gets out and I have to go chase him down, I'm really not interested at all in what you are selling. Most the time I don't bother answering the door and assume it is a UPS guy. If they ring twice, then I'll come see who it is. In the meantime you can watch my dogs wanting to attack you. I don't know who ever converted a sale by converting into pissed off mode at a potential customer. You just have to grin and then talk shit about the guy as you walk to the next house.

I have a No Soliciting and a Beware of Dog sign right next to the doorbell. Never seems to stop people from coming up. We
have a big picture window in front and people can see me sitting inside but I don't even bother opening the door most times.
We put up some décor in the window so that the dog wouldn't go through it when people come onto our property.

My neighborhood has a "No Solicitation" sign up on the street coming in. The only door to door guys we get are the jackal home renovation guys that pop up after storms.

Anyhow, after the Great Lake County Flood of 2017, one of these fucks shows up at my door...my neighborhood got no real flood damage anywhere. Guy knocks on the door, conversation as follows:

Guy: Hi sir....

Me: I don't really care what you're selling...there is a No Solicitors sign at the entrance to the neighborhood. You do understand what "No Solicitors" means, right?

Guy: Well, I'm here with ______ Home Renovation

Me: Did you not understand what I just said? If you're pushing your home repair scam door to door, you're not welcome in the neighborhood unless you have HOA approval.

Guy: Well I got their approval.

Me: Did you get it in writing?

Guy: Well, no, I spoke to the board secretary and he gave it to me.

Me (yelling to wife): Hey, Wife, did you talk with "dickface" from _____ Home Renovation? He says you gave him verbal approval to go door to door, and that he thought you were a he. *My wife has been the secretary of the HOA for almost 6 years at this point

Guy: Well, um,

Me: You may leave now.

Then I proceed to watch him go towards my neighbor's house, so I walked outside and let him know his car was parked around the corner...right below the No Solicitor sign....then I asked him if he actually knew how to read...

Sometimes I can be a real asshole, but this fuck caused my dog to bark, which woke my kids up from their nap...so fuck him.
