I just drove by Maryville and they've got a full crucifixion going on complete with Romans on horseback. I was tempted to stop and roll bones for Jesus's clothes.

I think some people in the Philippines and Mexico have reenacted this with all the pain--they really whip the Jesus stand-in and actually nail his hands and feet (and then take him to a doctor). Mercy.

My son was a Roman guard in his seventh-grade live Stations of the Cross. He had a pretty cool helmet and chest armor as he bossed around a skinny, adolescent Jesus. It's comforting seeing your kids go through the same rituals you did--and to see them get meaning out of it.
