Mike Schmidt. Rawlings GJ45 with Bellows Web and Edge-U-Cated heel. Bought it with my own money, about '77. Played years of fast-pitch softball with it, then lost it one day at the Little League field with my kids, still ticks me off.

We had a REALLY old three-finger looking glove my Dad said was a first baseman's mitt, we referred to it as the Ed Whitehall model, some old dude my Grandpa used to talk about...

Edit: I just looked on Baseball Reference, I'll bet it was Earl Whitehill, Tigers pitcher from the 20-30s

Loved him, but the first bat I remember being able to handle was a Willie Wilson model.

Or maybe I just tried to slap hit like him.

My first glove was Roger Clemmons. My second glove was Dwight Gooden.

Steroid guy and a Cocaine guy. I guess that was a bad omen for me.

Never got a 3rd glove. I used the Dwight Gooden from the age of 10 until my 1st year in high school. I was on the Freshmen B team. That's the year I learned that I officially sucked and never played organized baseball again.

Moment of silence for my baseball career. Thank you.

But I still use the Dwight Gooden when I play catch with my nephews.

Rawlings "Deep Well Pocket" with Reggie Jackson's signature. I sucked. I was a real Dick Stuart out there.

I was still under 10 for most of Brett's career, but as I was collecting baseball cards in the mid 80's, his was always so fun to read.

Did you switch after-shave lotion in order to turn your career around? (Wasn't that the guy in the commercial?)

That was Joe Pepitone. My sister got it from him as a kind of early '70s Make-A-Wish deal.

It was in my room as I grew up.

Ha, I was wondering which one you meant but assumed Brett. Murphy was really good, but when you look at his baseball ref similar batter list, definitely not in Brett's league:

Andruw Jones (929.6)
Joe Carter (903.7)
Duke Snider (883.9) *
Don Baylor (880.6)
Jim Edmonds (877.2)
Alfonso Soriano (876.5)
Ron Santo (875.4) *
Gil Hodges (874.6)
Ruben Sierra (870.1)
Jack Clark (868.9)
