So I was sitting my laptop on the armrest of the couch and the damn thing fell.

It landed where the charger wire plugs into the computer power port.

The wire end was busted but I had a spare. But when I plug in the spare, it doesnt hold. I think the power part where there is like a round slot is loose. I still see it has a pin but im guessing the whole part is probably too lose now to hold the power cord without help.

I have to wrap the power's wire around the screen portion to get it to charge now. It's like bending a wire to get the connection.

Does anyone know how to fix it?

It probably just needs to be cleaned. Dump some Windex on it and leave it sit overnight.

Try turning it off and then on again.

This happens in a lot of HPs I deal with at work. We typically have to replace the power input. If it’s still under warranty mail it in or set up repair. Otherwise take it to a local repair and get a quote.

This is really the best option.

Yeah, make sure you get it taken in, you don't want to screw around with a short in the power source or anything like that.

It gives me hope in humanity that no one on this board suggested "delete system 32"

Seriously though, take the advise of those who are telling you to take it to a shop to get a quote on fixing it.

If the repair costs don't seem worth it, you could do a lot worse than this one.

It all just depends on how old the laptop is and what your repair person is going to charge you. My opinion is that $100 to $300 can secure a decent replacement laptop. If your repair quote is over $100 you might want to get another laptop. My general opinion is that like people who do work on PCs are unreasonable when they charge customers $50 to change RAM.

I really just use it for this site and other internet sites.

Maybe it's better to get some kind of ipad device? I would just miss the keyboard. Do they have a ipad like device w/ a keyboard that is reliable and not too much cost? Like around $200?

And not a small screen too. Something where I don't need to struggle seeing the screen.

If you're not married to Windows you could get a cheap Chromebook.

You can get an iPad, but not for $200 unless it's a gen1 or something. There's maybe Kindles that are more your price range but I have no idea if they have browsers or much functionality beyond videos and the like.

Link: http://a.co/d03CE5Z <- This is a keyboard meant for a tablet. Lot of people have them.

We would need to know what other internet sites to help you.

without knowing the model number of the laptop its hard to tell what to do. some laptops are easy to replace the power jack, some are a complete bitch.

Yes, you can buy Bluetooth keyboards for iPads that usually have stands. $200 for an older iPad is usually a Craig's List purchase. They want $300 for even refurbished ones depending on specs. But eBay is a good place to look if you can find a reputable seller. The keyboards are somewhat expensive new, but if you can find a used one you can probably limit your purchase to $20.

The flip side of this is that a lot of the Android tablets are fairly cheap and it is possible to get keyboards for some of them.

i can vouch for this... i kind of brute forced my way into the laptop casing when the internal/male AC adapter connector had recessed back into the laptop chassis and kind of cracked the plastic enough to have the little male cube (not to be confused with the IMU-approved band "the little male cubes") external..... and one day the laptop just blacked out and never came back. i'm assuming this is what CH is talking about here.

Yeah, I feel like amateur surgery on the power source is either gonna brick the laptop or start a fire. I didn't even like reseating the RAM because I was afraid I'd ground myself wrong and destroy the whole thing.

I lost a motherboard a few months ago, still don't know what did it. The hard drive lives on in an enclosure but one day the thing stopped turning on.

The last thing we need on this board is another BRicked laptop.
