https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics ... ar-AAvY8rT Washington is on track to become the first place in the country to allow people as young as 16 to vote in federal elections, including for president, as the nation glimpses the emerging political power of the generation that follows millennials. It's part of a burgeoning movement in the U.S. and abroad as a growing number of cities and states consider ways to expand voting rights to younger people. "At the age of 16, our society already gives young people greater legal responsibility. They can drive a car. They can work. Some are raising a family or helping their family make ends meet. They pay taxes," said D.C. Councilmember Charles Allen, a Democrat who introduced the bill last week to lower the voting age. "And yet, they can't exercise their voice where it matters most — at the ballot box." |

Probably. Actually, 22 is probably even too young to vote. I think you need to experience dealing with the real world enough to understand the impact of politics on your life. Once you really get it, you should be more than willing to participate. |

I say who cares. 18yo don't vote as it is, 16yos never will either. But it is dumb. I remember 16. I was a complete idiot. |

Too young. Too many 16 year-olds lack the maturity. Many of them are just starting to turn the corner at this age. I can see them single-issue voting some wacko into a local office. However, if even more people start living past 80 in the future, though (and I realize lots do already) and they vote in reliably high numbers, I might be ok with it. |

25 years old to vote for males. Females should not be allowed to vote. |

If anything the age needs to be raised to 21 |

So are you proposing a maximum-age vote limit? Once you get to 78 or so, get the hell out of here, you've got no skin in the game. |

RFDC wrote: How stupid. Fair compromise might be letting 16-17s vote in glamorless local/municipal elections (which actually matter, you know!) as kind of a runway for statewide elections at 18. |

This country is fucked. Let's just have criminal cases decided by Twitter polls instead of a jury or shit, even a trial. |

I have more of an issue with an 80 year old voting than I do a 16 year old. Neither should be allowed to vote though. |

The 80 year old is getting money from the ponzi scheme and the best health care. Why should they be allowed to cripple future generations because they'll elect politicians who will stop any reform of their safety nets? |
