She's almost 12, and when I was 13, I saw The Joshua Tree tour at Rosemont Horizon.
My mom still talks about seeing The Beatles at The International Ampitheatre when she was like 16.
She was so pissed because she couldn't even hear the band over all the screaming. She just wanted to hear Ringo.
So it was kind of important to me for her 1st show to be a memorable one.
She's going thru a serious BTS phase, and they're coming to the UC in October and I think tix start in the $300 range...

She's not going to care about them when she's a sophomore in HS, let alone in her 30s.
Everyone will always know who U2 are.

I just got a free ticket. I cannot go until after games are over so I will have to high tail it to the UC at 7:45 for an 8 show. I'm expecting they won't hit the stage until 8:30 and they will be playing songs from an album I've never heard for at least 15 minutes, maybe more. Not optimal and I wouldn't pay for it but not bad on a freebie.

I saw them open for the Afghan Whigs at the Vic.

UC might be too big for them.

Have fun, Shirtless.

We will have our first family concert in September when we go to see Ed Sheeran. Daughter's birthday gift.

Is Seacrest editing my posts again?

It's not Built to Spill, I was just goofing.

Probably the Korean boy band at those prices.

My partner offered me a ticket yesterday as his wife had to bail (I turned it down). He said he kept getting emails that the show starts promptly at 8. They didn't take the stage until about 8:45, but he said they announced that was due to a technical issue. And apparently they don't play many of their hits on this tour - songs from their last 2 albums mostly.

My first concert was Paula Abdul. I thought she was crazy hot at 12 or whenever. The highlight though was Color Me Badd opening.

Shirtless, I hope your daughter cherishes this moment forever. It's a great "starting point" for her, for sure.

It's disposable shit music made in a lab for little kids, kinda like Dance Gavin Dance, but more sincere....

U2 was my very first "FAVORITE" rock band. But they're not that U2 anymore.

But for us "old" U2 fans, this just ain't the same. It may as well be Taylor Swift, given the scene.

You should've gone to the UC instead of Wrigley last night.
The only times my kid picked up her phone all night (and I didn't even say anything at all about phone usage)
was to take pictures of the show, so that was promising. She loved it, but said it was a 'little too loud'. She had ear plugs.
It took 2.5 hours from my front door to the Ogden exit  , but only 75 minutes to get back home.
All in all, it was awesome. My wife went to a nearby theater and saw a movie and only had to wait for us for about a half hour.

How was the show, shirtless?

My first real concert was the PopMart tour, June 27 at Soldiers Field.

I wasn't the biggest fan of the new album at first, but "Love Is Bigger Than Anything In Its Way" has really grown on me. It's as good as the highlights of How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb, which is probably about all you can ask for from a fourteenth U2 album in 2017.

The last album of theirs I got was 'ATYCLB.' Other than whats on the radio, have heard zero new U2 since.

Of course, as much as I love Achtung Baby, my favorite album of theirs (and one of my favorite of all time) is Pop, so I'm a little weird in terms of my U2 fandom.

Back when Maddox was funny, one of his better-known posts was "The Worst Songs of 2004" and it was just How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb start to finish. I hated "Vertigo" too, but that's a little unfair; "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own" and "City of Blinding Lights" are fine enough songs even if they're not exactly covering new ground. No Line on the Horizon flat-out sucks worse than any other album of theirs, Songs of Innocence is surprisingly good but made everyone mad because of the iTunes promotion, and Songs of Experience has a couple of good songs but feels like the well is dry.

my first concert, dad took me to see steve miller band... but that was only because we walked to the waterfront festival in rockford from our house and he kinda ruined it by complaining how old they were and how old he was and how it wasnt that special. its like stfu dad its better than sitting at home watching nascar

btw, bts is awful, but yea children are going apeshit for them right now. shirtless driver, youre a good dad.

Instrumentation is too complex for you all. You all need to hear some 808.

I'm not a music guy but sometimes I think I love a band. Then I run into a post like this and realize I'm out of my depth in talking about even the stuff I like.

I didn't get out of the house until 8:15 as we had two different games and even though we were back before 8 and the concert was starting my wife said she needed to do her hair. WTF? I was proud of my calm.

Still, I was in my seat by 9 as Beautiful Day was starting. It was liberating being late. There was no traffic or any rush at all. I look at the playlist and don't feel I missed much.

I completely forgot about 'Atomic Bomb.' I have that too, but my previous post shows how many times I've actually listened to that record.

I thought the concert was bland. Even their choices for an encore were bland to the point that when they were done, people didn't know the concert was finished. The Joshua Tree show was so perfect in its presentation and the items surrounding it for me that it wouldn't be fair to compare. However, on its own I still don't think this was a very rousing show.

It's worth it for me to hear Sunday Bloody Sunday played live. I got what I needed. I wanted more.

One day you can play guitar as good as Will Swan. Keep at it.
