my 2 cents: When did it start to use the term "Jesus "'f-ing" Christ" as an acceptable term? I'm reading it on here a lot and hear it on podcasts. I went to Catholic school where they trained us to bow our heads in reference whenever we said the Lord's name (back in the '60's). I still very seldom say "God d$m& it." I know I'm going to get ripped for this. I'm not a good Catholic by any interpretation but certain things just don't sit well with me. |

I've found the one that usually comes out after a bad shot on the golf course is "God F-ing Damn it" followed by some derogatory talk about myself. Sometimes I feel bad about it but I usually get over it after about 10 seconds. |

God has bigger problems to worry about. |

I think it just follows all the other relaxations of the popular use of language. Sure it is disrespectful but somehow no enough are bothered. |

I think "taking the Lord's name in vain" is misunderstood as swearing or cursing with God's name. What it actually means is using the Lord's name under false pretenses, like Joel Osteen, for example. |

There seems to be a general disrespect for people that choose to be religious as well. Or at least those that choose to show that. Except Muslims I guess. There seems to be an inordinate amount of respect fore that religion. I don't know? |

To me, it's just as disrespectful on a religious person's part to try and cram their faith down your throat...which, going back to at least 9/11 has become quite prevalent in this country... More now than ever, people want to scream about the country being a "Christian Nation", blah blah blah...but which brand of Christianity? Honestly, I've found the most overtly religious "Bible Thumpers" to be the most hypocritical pieces of garbage I've ever met. And they don't like me because I'm pro-Choice, Pro-Gay Rights, and Pro-Second Amendment.... Now, in interest of full disclosure, I used "Cafeteria Christians" as my example above, however, I'm an equal dick to people of all faiths that want to push their shit on me...I once tossed a free Koran off my front porch after I politely declined the nice Muslim people that wanted to give it to me, and they insisted on leaving it there, anyway (back in 07-08...whenever the new Mosque opened in Schaumburg). |

In no world do I consider this a "daily occurrence" per se...but the more articles and whatnot I read...including the godforsaken letters to the editor section of the Daily Herald, I see the hypocrisy in abundance...it's quite telling and sad. |

jimmypasta wrote: A good example of this is how easy they mock Jesus on late night TV but very seldom do you here a shot at other deities. I kinda get what you're saying, though while I don't see virtually any "late night" TV, is there really a lot of anti-Jesus mockery? I have a difficult time believing it's at a high level. Anyway, the other side of that is for a joke to work, the audience has to be (a) interested and (b) knowledgeable [to some degree at least] about the topic. You don't hear a lot of Vishnu jokes because nobody really knows shit about it for the most part. Maybe on the King of Curry Comedy Tour would someone have a five-minute hunk on Hinduism but they probably wouldn't include it in their nightly set at Zanies. So, the heavy skew (perceived or otherwise) is probably more about practicality than anything else. |

Here you are talking about someone of religious background or belief being DISRESPECTFUL yet in the above you expose yourself as being one of the most DISRESPECTUL people on this board.
