James Gunn is exiting Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

The move comes after conservative personalities resurfaced old tweets in which the filmmaker joked about controversial topics such as pedophelia and rape. Gunn, who has been an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump, has since deleted his Twitter account.

"The offensive attitudes and statements discovered on James’ Twitter feed are indefensible and inconsistent with our studio’s values, and we have severed our business relationship with him," said Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn in a statement.

Before deleting his account, Gunn tweeted, "Many people who have followed my career know when I started, I viewed myself as a provocateur, making movies and telling jokes that were outrageous and taboo. As I have discussed publicly many times, as I’ve developed as a person, so has my work and my humor."

The tweets came to light after conservative website The Daily Caller dug up the tweets, which were mostly posted in 2008 and 2009. Soon after, conservative personalities were tweeting to followers to confront Gunn at Comic-Con. Gunn had been expected to be at Sony's presentation Friday. It is still unclear if Gunn plans on appearing.

Gunn has been writing the script for Guardians 3, and the movie was expected to begin shooting in Atlanta in the fall for an expected 2020 release date, though Marvel Studios had never officially announced the date. The Guardians movies have been a massive success for Disney and Marvel. The first movie made more than $773 million worldwide while the second made $863 million. The films stood out from other Marvel movies as they were infused with Gunn's off-kilter filmmaking sensibilities that owed more to indie genre movies than slicker cookie cutter studio fare. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige had previously indicated that Gunn would continue to work with Marvel after Guardians 3 helping shepherd the cosmic side of the studio's universe.

Literally 2 of the worst groups at this point in our history are the liberal and conservative head hunters that exhaust themselves uncovering shit from 10 fucking years ago to publicly attack someone.

I'd love to see what some of these fucks had to say at a different time in their lives.

That’s all it is anymore, a competition for who can snitch the best.

Really sucks for the franchise. Gunn was really in his element.

And fuck Disney and their disingenuous bullshit. Like they don’t have executives who are getting away with tons of shady shit.

The Stars and Stripes of the American flag will eventually be replaced by the text "I'm Telling!" above the logos of Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook.

Walt Disney himself didn't treat the majority of his workers well at all.

He was constantly at odds with major creative talented cartoonists and animators back in the day.

I'm not talking about the #MeToo stuff. I don't know anything about that whatsoever. Disney kept top talent under his thumb, paid them terribly and any whiff of union or strike talk was dealt with harshly.

He was easily threatened by anybody on his staff who exhibited more talent and drive than he... often terminating them on the spot. If I remember correctly, some of those cartoonists eventually banded together and created Looney Tunes.

Yup, it's not good. The only difference with some guy like QCP, though, is that I think his tweets belied someone who was biased in the performance of their government function. Gunn's offensive jokes from years ago aren't showing up in his movies today.

Casualty who forgot to delete the offensive tweets. For immoral people some liberals are rather self-righteous.

Exactly. Just like whatshis name the pitches stuff from like 9 years ago doesn't affect anything he does on the mound now...it's not like he's headhunting minorities or something.

Left-wing people believe in the end justifying the means. So they feel they can hate other people if they deem their opposition's views as hateful. Only when someone on their side really crosses the line do they cut bait.

I can't for the life of me figure out why some of these people and the companies they work for now don't just ignore the People on Twitter and ignore the fake outrage.

Pitcher for the Brewers said some uncouth things as a 17 year old? James Gunn posted some sketchy statements? They did all that before they worked with us and they've been nothing but exemplary partners. So get fucked, people on Twitter.

Very true. I know some people who deem themselves so loving and caring as long as they get what they want to out of everyone else. But turn into the most bat shit crazy mean assholes imaginable when they don't get what they want. These people are called Liberals.

And for too fucking long people have tolerated these asshats and stepped aside and allowed this shit to happen. I say NO. Stand up to these people an do not cow tow to bitches like Maxine Waters and company. For too long we have allowed these firebrands to run roughshod over our ever so "politeness". Lets play in their swamp!!!!

Disney was pretty strange. So was his brother. I knew a couple who met as workers at Disneyland and both said that Disney hired a lot of gay people who were let us say very OPEN with their gayness and were hit on multiple times and it was condoned by management.

I will also say that my wife and I went with a couple who live in Florida to Disneyworld and I never saw so many white people in my life. I would say that there were maybe 1 or 2% minorities in those parks. Not many minorities in the work force either. Don't know what to make of it but I was really blown away by it.
