Newper's thread reminded me of having to be in place to watch Gehrig's record being broken. And McGwire passing Maris. |

Tyson Holyfield where Tyson bit the ear. I remember being at a bar and playing pool and seeing that happen and thinking there is no way I saw what I saw. |

Oh, I know. That US Women's Gymnastics Team in the 90s when they won it. Turns out we were manipulated or something. The athlete who supposedly won it (though I think they had wrapped it up before) on an injured drumstick was on 90210 a week later. |

Seemed unnecessary to get a pirate ONTV box to see the Holmes/Cooney fight in retrospect. |

I remember that, heard the news early in day and watched with future wife pretending to not know what happened. Olympics, a little World Cup and baseball is about all I can get her to watch. |

They didnt have the technology to film TV shows in advance in the 90s. Good catch. |

I still remember the pre-fight issue of Sports Illustrated where they showed an imagined picture of Holmes winning and Cooney lying unconscious, and the flipside with Holmes knocked out and Cooney standing over him victorious. That seemed like the peak of the Great White Hope era. I think Tex Cobb was next in line and landed about 6 punches against Holmes. |
