Hosted a memorial dinner last night. Food was like 60, drinks were like 120. Just wasnt sure how to tip.


I gave him $30 on a bill of $182


To be clear, of course you tip for drinks at the bar. Im talking about at a sit down restaurant when the liquor is a big part of the bill.

If I'm at the bar, I tip $1 for bottled beer and $2 for other drinks.

...someone is still making and bringing those drinks to you? Two someones. Why would you not tip, or tip way less?

I doubled my tipping percentage for pizza delivery because of you and now you attack former hard working waiters like myself with this question?

Because it's a thing people say. I did tip him on the liquor. I've just never been in that situation before.

I believe the thought process is if you stay in a restaurant and order a couple $100 bottles of wine for after dinner, you shouldnt have to tip 20%.

Im an overtipper in general, though. Usually Ill do 30% but last night caught me off guard.

I think there are some people who would disagree. Maybe it's a generational thing because most people I've heard talk about tipping differently based on liquor are older.


I didnt make this up though. It IS a thing. It may be a cheapo thing, but a THING nonetheless.

My problem is going 7-8 on pizza delivery is that my total is usually 16-18 bucks...have a hard time justifying 50% in my brain. My pizza minimum is 5...if a larger order, usually around 20-30%

But you could pick it up. Look at it as a convenience price for not having to leave your house.
