In all the Drew Brees talk, an interesting scenario came up. Drew Brees signs with Miami instead of New Orleans. Nick Saban, either stays in Miami instead of going to Alabama and becomes a Pete Carroll type success story or Brees has his career end up being derailed by a guy who wasn't a good fit for the NFL.

What are some of the others?

One that I know of is that way back when Purdue basketball was looking for a coach. There was a former star player who was interested in returning but he had a year left on his contract and he wanted to honor that so he turned them down. That person was John Wooden who would stay at UCLA for a while and do pretty good(with the help of some willful ignorance about some friends of the program).

I buy the argument that Brees is the coming together of a lot of different factors and that, as stupid as it sounds, the disaster played a part in his ascension. There is something unquantifiable about how players get the energy to put in the work to be great, and that threshold for QB's is simply unfathomable. They live at the facility and I really think Brees saw that and took it upon himself to be some sort of beacon. Sounds stupid and I feel stupid writing it, but I think there's some truth to it. Also, Sean Payton is a great coach.

But yea, Saban/Brees in the AFCE may have upset the Patriots dynasty in a major way.

What happens if John Elway doesn't demand a trade from the Baltimore Colts?

The Bears lose a coin toss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1970 for the first pick in the draft. The Steelers draft Terry Bradshaw.

The Bulls lose a coin toss to the Los Angeles Lakers in 1979 for the first pick in the draft. The Lakers draft Magic Johnson.

Charles Comiskey follows through on his interest in signing a young Babe Ruth.

If I remember correctly, Ruth was lumped in with several players in a deal for 100k.

Deal breaker for Comiskey. Too much money.

Yes. I think he told the Bears his hand or arm was too swollen to throw and they said not interested.

You could make an argument that the Colts moving from Baltimore to Indianapolis has defined the last 20 or so years of NFL football more than anything else. The fallout of Art Modell firing Belichick and moving the Browns to Baltimore alone has such massive ramifications on the modern league its impossible to envision what the league would be like had it not happened.
