Hello, I am posting under another name because this is embarrassing. But I'm also posting because I respect the jdugment and experiences of the people here. Here is the question: What do you do when your career is dead (100%) and you don't have any real skills but need a job? I;m getting older and as I said, I am underemployed and its destroying the family, not to mention self-esteem, quality of life. Basically, are there any jobs that would hire reasonably smart but unskilled middle aged people? Another problem is that I have a lot of anxiety. I could manage that. I might have to deliver pizzas. What do you do when you are screwed (career is 100% dead) and have no skills? I can't make my family pay like this any more. Have you ever been through this? |

There are good paying jobs for unskilled labor. Subway driver Railroad Flagman Construction Flagger Bus driver Or you could pick up a certification or two and get jobs like a material tester or welding inspector. Certs aren’t too expensive. |

Driving a truck might be worth a look...plus, your anxiety would be less of an issue due to the nature of the job. |

What do you do when you are screwed (career is 100% dead) and have no skills? I can't make my family pay like this any more. Have you ever been through this? First of all if you are the only one supporting a family show them confidence in this rough period in your life. I know it's a burden putting all this stress on yourself but you have to show them you're strong so they can be strong. Now, I am not saying this as a joke but this is serious : The United States Postal Service is hiring this year. This is one of my regrets in life not to be a Postal Worker when I had the chance when I was in my 20s. Is it a glamorous job ? No. Is it the best pay? No. But do you want job security and a job for life? Yes. And it's not like you have to deliver mail. There are other jobs they have like sorting at a facility, working at the post office in town, etc... My regular mailwoman just retired a few months ago. She started at 18 and retired at 48! Full Pension too! What job this day do you get a full pension!?!? Another guy I knew working there back when I was living in Chicago went to college and got his degree and got somewhere way up in the Postal Service. Some kind of computer management job. I'm sure he's still there or already retired. I know they are hiring this year. They generally go thru like 1 year where they hire and then stay quiet like for 5 years afterwards. Look into it and good luck! |

Shit pay if not part of the road team but they always looking for people. Always. TSA airport screener. Govt job. Good advancement possibilities especially if not a white male. With seniority you can bid for an overnight exit lane and literally do nothing for 8 hours. If you are not white, you can work at half speed with no pushback. It's now a sort of union job.
