It seems to be the logical answer if people don't want to burn coal. |

Maybe. Keep your eye out for hydrogen power plants. There are a few people getting close to perfecting the secret sauce wherein salt or grey water is combined with aluminum and a catalyst, resulting in the generation of heat with byproducts of hydrogen and distilled water. The hydrogen can be sold or burned as additional fuel and the water can be used for crop generation and drinking water. |

Nucular. It's pronounced Nu-cu-lar. |

As with anything there are things to consider with nuclear. Sure is clean if you can handle the idea of a potential accident and disposal of spent fuel. There probably isn't a power source that would satisfy all people. |

There probably isn't a power source that would satisfy all people. Yucca Moutain exists to store it until.that chicken shit Harry Reid blocked it. Now we have "glow trains" filled with nuclear waste crossing the US ready to bring ruin to whatever town they derail it. Nuclear power works period. Cleaner (steam no CO2 emissions), cheaper, and more efficient. France gets over 50% of its power from Nuclear energy and doesnt have a problem with waste in a much smaller country. We need more nuclear plants regardless what a bunch of patchouli scented burritos say. |

Nuclear power does work and the issue of spent fuel can be largely mitigated if you allow for reprocessing. On top of that, the Gen III and upcoming Gen IV reactors have a ton of redundant safety features in them. Heck, those plants are so safe that even Rickover would be impressed |

Nuclear power plants should be banned. They are earthquake and tsunami prone. Have people already forgotten about Fukushima? After the incident happened, there was fallout in our area. It was raining ash. The Japanese are still dumping radioactive water into the Pacific Ocean, killing all the ocean life. Nuclear power and radio-frequency transmission technology are a bane to human life. We are on a collision course with extinction. Look at the smart Germans. They have dismantled/decommisioned their nuclear power plants, because they know better. |

Uh I think the solution is to just not build plants on fault lines or coasts susceptible to tsunamis, but if you and the GOAT Fouts think banning them outright is the solution then good on ya. |

I didnt realize it but the plant survived the earthquake fine.... it was the 40 foot tall tsunami waves that caused the meltdown |

Nuclear seems to be the ultimate in high-risk/high-reward. But as was stated above, use up-to-date engineering, build them in safe places, and you should be fine. In terms of pollution, it's better than the constant medium hum of burning coal. And if we all die in a nuclear holocaust, hey, it'll be better than the slow death of climate change, right? |

A modern reactor put through that same tsunami doesn't fail. |

GOAT Fouts is right. When comparing Joe Montana, Fouts and Ken Anderson, San Fransisco HOF coach Bill Walsh once said, "''Fouts is the most perceptive of the three, the most resourceful, the most dynamic and he had the most leadership but when I got to San Diego, he had been on some derelict teams." That pretty much settles it, comparing him to Montana. |

Much of that was due to the Beach Boys typecasting big waves as "cool" and "fun to surf on." They really didn't consider them anything other than harmless fun for the local teenagers. |

Of course not... it is challenging enough to make a nuclear plant in a stationary location, but you are asking it to be able to be flown around??? Good luck with that, buddy! |

Nuke plants can be done right. And that costs a shitload of money. It will be a combination of wind, solar and batteries. That's all we need. The first two are solved... Wind and solar generation is cheap. Batteries are the problem, and we are very close to solving that too. Once we do, it's over. We might figure out stable fusion and that will be great and all, but right now all we need is better batteries and those are coming. Flood the grid with good batteries and we won't need anything else. |

What you going to do with old batteries? You can no longer throw away a goddamn tv or cell phone legally. |

pittmike wrote: What you going to do with old batteries? You can no longer throw away a goddamn tv or cell phone legally. Those are lithium. There are many other types of chemicals to make batteries from. Ideally we use graphene, which will allow disposal any way you want, they're just carbon. But they also will last a very long time so waste won't even be an issue. |
