Everyone else in her life abused and raped her so I guess the justice system needed a shot at it. This is one of those cases that just makes you sick and makes you question a lot about people and our system of justice. |

I really wish I hadn't read that. I think even a little less of people in general now. You'd think that the governor would step in there if her stories are true, but then again it's Tennessee. |

Crazy. How could a jury find her guilty? And even worse how could a board of parole be split on freeing her? |

Change the color of her skin and she's making the talkshow circuit and making the cover of People magazine. No way she's being convicted. Yet, white privelege and institutional racism don't exist in the US. It's almost beyond belief that her case led to the law being changed...but she doesn't get the benefit of that change. Fucking racist hillbillies. |

Clear case of racism. If she was white she would be on Ellen getting a free trip to jamaca |

Fucking racist hillbillies. Two things: 1) If ever there was a miscarriage of justice, this is it. This is insane. I hope the appeals court has some sense. 2) Goldenjet, you undercut every argument you make. |

Apparently we live in paused status where the speech from A Time to Kill remains the answer to all race relations eternally. |

Quote: A woman who was sentenced to life in prison for killing the man she said trafficked her for sex has just been granted clemency.
Cyntoia Brown had her sentence commuted by Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam today after serving 15 years in prison. "This decision comes after careful consideration of what is a tragic and complex case," Haslam said in a statement released by his office. Brown was convicted in 2004 of the murder of Johnny Allen, a 43-year-old real estate broker she claims was trafficking her for sex. She was tried as an adult in the case, convicted, and sentenced when she was 16 years old. |

"Brown’s motion had previously been denied by the a district court, which pointed out she wasn’t sentenced to 'life without parole'—just a life sentence." I'm with Reader...it's hard to imagine the depths to which humans will sink. |

The poor girl is far from out of the woods though. The types of trauma she suffered can take years to deal with. |
