Nostalgia for the way sports were played or whatever back during some previous moment in time is bullshit. What you're really nostalgic about is not the actual sport but the situation in life you were at when you were watching whatever sport you think was in a better state than it is now.

Example: Larry Bird-era guys woulda crushed today's weak ass stars because blah blah blah. You only think that not because of some objective evidence you have that indicates without a doubt that the stars/team in that era were more tough, skilled, etc. You're only saying that because when Larry Bird played you were a teenager with not a care in the world. Your situation in life at the time when Bird played is conflated with the sport itself. Nowadays when you watch today's stars play you're probably middle aged, in the middle of a mortgage, you have bills to pay, etc. Generally life sucks and it's boring. You watch today's sports with all that other stuff on your mind and your first thought is not "this is so awesome," it's "fuck this shit i got stuff to do."

So it's not so much that Bird's era was better, it was that you were allowed to be careless back then in life, and as a result everything you experienced was that much better.

Why choose the only good white player in NBA history?

I think sometimes things were better and sometimes they aren't. You just have to be honest in your evaluation. The era with Bird's Celtics and Magic's Lakers was a great one for the NBA. But I'd say we're in a great era right now even though I don't follow the league that closely.

To vegan's point, of course it's easy to romanticize players from one's youth.

I think MANY things were better when I was younger. Some were objectively better and some were subjectively better.

I don't know about better or worse, but every sport was decidedly different. The three point line only existed in the ABA, strikeouts and speed mattered in baseball, football was either a vertical game or three yards and a cloud of dust. Hell, golf was a game where fitness was an afterthought.

It wasn't his fault he was on the Raiders.

 Speaking on his behalf?

Such bitterness. Let it out. Let the Autumn wind of Christmas Eve blow out all that negativity.

It appears the original topic was lost on you.

You're not even a good meatball Bear fan.

Pedestrian poster moniker was apt.

NFL was better in the 70s and 80s. Different game. Hits were hits.

That sort of hit takes place about five times per week every year.

I'm honored that you think a thread of mine belongs where most of yours are stored.

Horrible example by the OP. The Bird era was better. Jeez, watch that Hardwood Classics(?) sometime.

And I'm retired so I got no shit to do. NBA is dead to me. Awful games. And there's your problem.
Some of the talent is amazing but no the games.
