Planning a trip to Vegas and St. George Utah for the wife's 40th. Haven't been to Vegas in 20 years. Looking for a nice hotel on the strip to stay. Some place nice, not somewhere I would've stayed at with my buddies back in the day.

2 pages later shakes will announce he appreciates our suggestions... but he decided to go to Reno instead

good question. I guess one with a great pool would be a must since I imagine we'll spend more time enjoying that than the actual room.

If one has a nice poker set up that would be a nice bonus as well.

I've been to Reno, what a dump. Pretty funny to go into the casino and see them using old tables and equipment that was sent over from Vegas like hand me downs.

Don't laugh, but the Trump hotel is great. I got upgraded to a penthouse for about $200 probably because business is down due to his polarizing nature. While it's not a casino, that's okay because it still has a nice pool, and you are literally next door to the Wynn and Venetian. And because it's not connected to a casino, you don't have to walk a mile through the casino to get to your elevator, which is nice when traveling with the family.

If I were to go with the guys, Mandalay and Caesars are our favs.

Palazzo, Encore and ARIA are your 3 best choices. Mirage is a step down but also has a nice pool. You can find decent poker at any of these.

no laughing from me at Trump. I got married at the Trump in Chicago. Didn't realize they had a place in Vegas. I might have to do that. I got a really close friend who basically runs all of Trumps hotels worldwide, I'm sure he can get me a great deal. He always does whenever I want to go to the one in Chicago.

I'll check those 3 out. Stayed at Mirage in 1994, it was really nice back then, but looking for something newer this time around.

Mirage is where I'll be staying this year, for the first time. So far I've always gone cheaper with the hotel...since I'm exploring all of the other casinos, resorts and restaurants anyway. The only requirement is that it must be on the strip. Bally's is the only one I wouldn't stay at again, I think. Mirage sportsbook is my favorite, but there are other decent ones.

The room itself was top notch...TVs built inside the bathroom mirrors, full kitchen with Wolf appliances, etc. I just got a kick of everything being branded: Trump towels, Trump water bottles, Trump slippers...

Why?

That's one of the dumpiest places I've been to on the strip. I've never stayed there, but nothing there impressed me whatsoever when I passed through and gambled.

Other than it being old and shittier than probably every other casino on the strip, I guess nothing.

It might be better than Harrah's...

It was just...crappy. Everything was old. The sportsbook had the smallest projection and LCD screens you could imagine. The screens were fairly washed out by the lighting. My non-smoking room MANY floors up from the casino wreaked of smoke. Etc.

EDIT: I stayed at Harrah's two years ago. It was actually fine. Nothing good about it...just an 'okay' place to have a room.

are you expecting to frequently visit other casinos for dining or shows?

staying at Wynn/Palazzo/Trump area of the strip is a pain in the ass if you are.

Palazzo is personal favorite of mine.

Their sportsbook sucks. As for the room, I'm guessing you didn't stay in the Jubilee tower?

I had to google this...my room looks like it was in the Indigo tower.

Cosmopolitan might be the choice for us. Appears to be in a good location in relation to the other spots on the strip. Looks like it has a decent pool. And the rooms have balconies which is key since the wife smokes and given the legal weed laws I'll use the balcony as well.

Indigo is nice but I like Jubilee better. I'm not a room snob but I know Jubilee is their most recent remodeling job. It's in the back closer to the check in desk, CVS, and Giordano's. Closer to the Strip I guess. Sorry to hear that your room smelled of smoke in a ns room.

MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, Venitian, The Wynn.

One of the best nightclubs too. Aria is alright and its right in the heart of the strip.

I recommend Circus Circus.

MGM Signature is actually kind of slick. A little bit off the Strip but its a nice hotel. Fills the Bill if you are doing the couple thing and they have nice eye candy chicks roaming also. Best of Both Worlds.
