what are u like, in comparison to your parents? No, Im not asking for a fucking profile description of yourself. I'm asking for certain characteristics about u that may be different from ur parents. For example, ur parents were domineering, and because of that u turned out to be a passive puss. Conversely, ur parents were meek as lambs, and u turned out to be a rich monster. Or are u the same as how ur parents were? Maybe u took after one of ur parents, but not both? Or maybe u werent at all like either of ur parents (i.e., the apple fell far from the tree) For me, my parents were serious as fuck, but I came out to be a big fuck-up. How bout u? |

My dad came from nothing and was very successful. Able to retire at 55 very comfortably. In order for him to be successful we had to move a lot so I moved 9 times before we finally settled in Gurnee when I was 15 years old. I would say that I take some traits of my folks like taking care of my yard and my love for golf. I don't work as hard as my dad did. I really don't want the stress in my life and have no intentions of moving from where I am at. Working for a big corporation you can kind of get away with some of that I think. Don't get me wrong I work hard and do a pretty good job but I also have a lot of flexibility which I really enjoy. With the loss of some close family members lately I am more about enjoying the time I have instead of giving work everything I have only to die before I can retire and enjoy what I have accomplished. |

There are times I wonder if the tree this apple fell from is the same one I was found under. |

More like Dad than Mom, but quite a bit different than both of them. |

I was raised by a village to be the village idiot, and I have excelled in that position for MANY years. |

That can be either good or bad, but it sounds like it's working out alright. My mom and dad and brother were/are driven and fully scheduled people. There is a way a get together has to go, way things have to be done. My brother to a lesser extent. I, on the other hand, bristle at that shit and it drives me nuts. My Dad and brother are both over 6' 3". I'm just shy of 6'. They can't grow a beard to save their life, I inherited the beard growing gene's that my mom's family apparently has. My brother and parents have very sharp features on their faces while I, again, favor a generation back (Although I can find pictures of my Dad that I can see the resemblance, just ignore the nose and chin). There is a genuine, IMO, lack of empathy that my brother and father have as well that I find disconcerting but whatever. I can't do much about that. I don't expect to be similar to my parents to be honest. Mom grew up in a working class Catholic family in Oaklawn and was the first of her familiy to go to college while Dad was a military kid who grew up everywhere. My brother and I had a lot more opportunities than they and lived in a stable upper middle class family. I am sometimes surprised at how different my brother and I are though but that was always the way it was. On the other hand, my brother, father and I all have the same mannerisms in how we talk. My wife says its creepy as shit. |
