Overheard a conversation about this on Sunday. Taking the online delivery to the next level, incorporating green practices. Reducing the use of plastic waste.

Pretty much.

But more like the days of milk deliveries. We did that for a few years when I was a kid.

We get groceries and other items delivered from target pretty frequently these days. They'll deliver pretty late and if you spend over $35 it's free. Pretty sure there are multiple service providers nowadays.

When I worked at the Jewels back in the 80's there was a full time employee whose only job was to collect and sort the returnable bottles. I still think the pop tasted better out of those bottles than the 2 liter containers that eventually replaced them.

I worked at Dominick's in that same time-frame and remember being assigned to "bottles" and sorting all them out. I remember that being a desirable job back then, it got you off the floor and away from cart-collecting, and you could fuck off unsupervised with the stockers for a little while. I loved working at that supermarket, that was a good job, had a lot of fun.

It still does taste better.

They sell bottled Coke with real sugar in glass bottles at Costco. I've seen single bottles at Jewel before as well.

We don't have a plastic consumption problem. It's a disposal problem. The whole disposal market is a shit show and by far the biggest reason plastic makes it to the oceans. If we had tighter controls from garbage can to landfill it wouldn't matter how much plastic we use.
