Put yourself in this poor sap's shoes; You bought something in 2016. It has a five year warranty. It went bad last week. You call the store you bought it from- whom you have a fairly decent relationship and do a bit but not a ton of business with- and they tell you to bring it in for testing and inspection and if it is defective and not damaged, they will warranty it out. You do this, and its determined that the item is indeed bad and will be swapped out. You get to the register and are told by the manager, "since the sales tax rates in 2016 were much lower than they are today, you have to pay the difference of X dollars so that we can keep out paperwork straight." What would be your reaction to this? |

Sales tax does not apply. The person is not purchasing a new item. It is a straight replacement. |

For the purpose of discussion, lets say the item originally cost $1000 And this was not something that I purchased. Or stole. |

What Seacrest said. Show me in the contract where it says I have to pay today's sales tax rate. |

Sounds like the cashier is an idiot. Still, we're talking less than $50, big deal. |
