So I am toying with the idea of doing a pool this summer. Called 811, turns out, I got a ComEd line, underground,(secondary-to my house) right through the center of my backyard. Assholes. Has anyone had one of these moved? What is this going to cost me?

Please do it yourself with a metal shovel.

Turn the sprinklers on and wrap yourself in tinfoil before you start the project.

It doesn't kill you. Neighbors hit it a few years ago and there is just a giant surge and then the entire block is out of power.

call your building department. maybe they'll let you trench the wire but will require an electrician to make the physical connection on both ends

Is it normal for companies to run trunk lines under private property? Don't they generally stay in the easements? Did the sub division developer just do a shit load of cheap shit?

Primaries should be in easements, secondary, lines don't have to. They still should try and do a pattern that gives you flexibility, but a diagonal through a yard is the cheapest and then they can charge again if you want it moved for a pool/deck etc.

Can I farm all of this out without getting Com-Ed involved? Don't they have to come out and give the "blessing" at least?

sounds like its the service line to the home... comed has to keep the main lines in rear yard easements or public right of way

Crazy thing is, I think the main is past the easement on my property too.

I have a pool and would advise against building one unless swimming is a passion of yours (or you're single).

Am I remembering wrong, or does a pool bring down the value of your property?

Opinions vary. It's a lot of expense to maintain it though.
