The idea is that a father would be able to opt out of any and all future child support payments by giving up his parental rights. Good idea or bad idea? |

So you're saying if it's "her body" then it shouldn't be "his problem"? |

In some level of late night discussion with friends this makes sense. You have a woman that became pregnant under normal circumstances by all agreement he husband or partner. There are options. The woman can keep this baby full term. And then either keep it or give it up for adoption. The woman can kill the baby in the womb. The man can't stop her. The man can decide to stay with the woman or not. He has no say in the abortion question. If the baby goes full term and she keeps it he must pay a minimum of 18 years of money and support if they did not stay together. If they are together he pays anyway and just doesn't think of it that way. If she gives it up I assume he has first dibs to adopt it. So obviously Steve Martin in the film Parenthood was right when he said women have choices but men have responsibilities. Is that right though? Shouldn't the man have the choice "within the first trimester" to say "no, I do not choose to be a father good luck"? A chance to move along one time get out of jail card? It makes for interesting back and forth but it always ends the same. The female (of I mean the kid ) gets the money. |

I think we should address contribution to college expenses under 513 first. How can it be that if we're married our responsibilities to the kids end when they turn 18, but if we get divorced we are likely forced to pay to send those fuckers to college? |
