This is getting ridiculous, Americans need to stay away from this shithole.

I don't think americans realize that the US has beautiful beaches and all inclusive hotels on the gulf.

What value over staying here do people get out of vacationing on an island and never leaving the resort?

I've known a few different people who have gotten extremely sick vacationing here. It also did not work out so well for David Ortiz on his last trip.

If you are aiming for guaranteed warmth in December/January on the beach You are probably better served heading further south than the gulf coast. I’m not sure The DR would be my first choice but we’ve looked into heading down to one of the smaller islands.

Wasn’t there a bunch of incidents in Mexico a few years ago at one of the all inclusive resorts involving “fake” booze that was basically food coloring and methanol or some other concoction?

Who cares about beaches when you can get hot latina ass for relatively cheap in the DR.......so I've heard.

Cuban women are just as fine and you won't get drugged and murdered.

Didn't Trump ban flights to Cuba now?

Costa Rica is where it's at.

The DR is beautiful. My wife and I spent 5 days there about 9 years ago. All inclusive in Puerto Plata, but we left the resort a few times. The servce was amazing and the people couldn't have been nicer. Never once felt unsafe. The mountains leading down to the ocean made for beautiful scenery. Hearing all of this makes me sad.

We went to Punta Cana for our honeymoon. We'd alternate days staying in the resort and going on excursions. Was fine, but not great. Felt like huge imperialist dogs on the trip to Santo Domingo. Was better than the Bahamas, but not better than the other Carribean/Central American places we've been.

I believe so, but you fly in from Mexico or Canada.

My wife and I went to Punta Cana a couple years ago and really enjoyed it. Never felt unsafe, never saw any incidents and never felt the slightest bit ill from the booze. Our experience has been the same in Cancun and the Riviera Maya.

We always try to be gracious to staff and always tip our bartenders.

I do wonder if the majority of these incidents occur to tourists who happen to be arrogant and demeaning?

Somebody better tell Southwest Airlines then since they still list flights to Havana on their website.

We had pretty much the same experience in Punta Cana 2 yrs ago. I sort of feel like this is being covered in the same way that shark attacks are when a couple get some notoriety.

I think if 9 people were killed by a shark in the same area that it may be cause for some concern .

I heard it was bootleg alcohol in the hotel room minibars.

We did but that's pretty much the whole Caribbean as well as much of the world. Parts of Brazil make the DR look like Kenilworth.
