There are three women and another male besides myself in this office. I'd guess the room to be about 25' across, and 40-50' long. The women like to set the thermostat at 75 or 76. AND they have a space heater going....in AUGUST.

I turned it down to 73 this morning and I got jumped on. Came back from an errand and it was back at 76. I turned to 74.

'Geez, how much colder are we going to make it in here? It's already freezing.'

"Are you kidding? It was set at 76. 74 is a fair compromise especially if you are going to keep your heater on in the middle of summer."

'We're not unplugging this heater.'

"Ok, then every time I see the thermostat above 74 I'm turning it down."

I'd love it at 70 or 71, but I'm not some unreasonable jackass who will to freeze everyone else out. I'll settle for 73 and even 74 on some cooler days. But listen Betty, either wear long sleeves or unplug your heater or just fucking deal with it. This is not Russia. I'm not working in a 76 degree office- with a space heater running- in the middle of July & August- because your meatflaps are chilly.

Fortunately, the thermostat is directly next to my desk, and my boss' personal office is on the same AC system (there are two here, ahoy palloi!) so he constantly calls me to turn it down.

My argument about office air conditioning is simple. You can put a sweater on. I can't wear shorts.

Keep the pimp hand strong Frank. 76 is unreasonable as fuck. Put it on 68 and tell anyone who tries to change it to fuck off

I should add that two of these girls are quite a bit younger than me, and one is close to my age. If it was a frail, little old lady I would probably have some more respect for the temperature. But you're right, FF. Fuck these people.

This is why air conditioning is inherently sexist.

The HVAC system in our building, and in our office, can be a little wonky and during the spring/summer the temperature usually varies from 68-73 during the course of the day in our office. In the winter it can be between 66-70, often between 66-68. During that time I'll put on a sweatshirt and/or turn on a space heater in my office for a while. One of my staff, a woman, would be happy if it were 78 in here year round. When it's 72 or 73 she will be wearing a fleece and/or a sweater, have another in her lap, and frequently complains about how cold it is.

I have given her the option of moving into an office that tends to be a few degrees warmer, using her space heater (other staff members use their space heater when they need it), or shutting the fuck up. I did not actually say the latter, of course, but it was implied by my tone when I told her for the twentieth time what her options are. I even had the HVAC guy close one of the vents near her desk. She doesn't want to move into the warmer office, won't use the space heater ("It's August! I shouldn't have to use a space heater in August!"), but at least she doesn't complain about it around me too much anymore.

I would definitely rather be a little chilly and put on a sweatshirt or turn on a space heater than be too warm at work. The latter is just miserable and saps all of your energy.

Lippman: Oh, "It was damp and chilly afternoon, so I decided to put on my sweatshirt!"

Elaine: Right, well...

Lippman: You put exclamation point after sweatshirt?

Elaine: That's that's correct, I felt that the character doesn't like to be ch..chilly...

Lippman: I see, "I pulled the lever on the machine, but the Clark bar didn't come out!" Exclamation point?
