Post subject:  NYC from the trenches

Was in NYC this week (take that redskingreg), here are a few observations and tidbits.

1) Their subway system still uses their magnetic striped cards. Was a bit surpised at this. I hated Ventra from Day 1 and wish we still had those.

2) Their subway trains dont have monitors that tell u the next stop (unlike the L). Kind of surprising. But their buses DO have monitors (unlike ours).

3) Their local channels showed the 9/11 memorials going on downtown. Read off the names of all those killed. Took over 3 hours. Heard traffic there was terrible due to this. Brought back the memories of that day.

4) On TV, former NYC police commissioner was saying how crime in Chicago is bad for 2 reasons:
-we have good gun control laws, but theyre not enforced that well
-there is extraordinary amount of racial tension here

Interesting to hear this from an outsider. You never get that kind of analysis around here, cuz we're in the middle of it and day to day trying to deal with the bullshit and the spin jobs. And then u have guys like Peoria Matt that are in Peoria and don't give a shit.

Discuss any of these but especially want to see what u guys think of #4.
