The timing is suspect... don't they make contracts a year or so in advance? How did this come to a head now? Did Dish have plan and FOX just fucked them? |

when we had dish this was par for the course. I didn't complain much because i also know that i paid way less for dish than everyone i know paid for direct and cable and i assumed these hard negotiating tactics were the reason. eventually that discount fell by the wayside and we cut the cord. |

This shit is getting ridiculous. With AT&T taking over Dish, it's been a complete clusterfuck. UVerse completely dropped the NFL Network and Redzone. Then they dropped CBS stations for a week or two. I think Dish is also looking to re-negotiate with Disney and ABC. I'm all for cord-cutting, but I suspect it will eventually become more expensive than cable, so why switch? |

yeah, Uverse did drop RedZone. Now I gotta find somebody with a Direct tv account who gets it so I can get a new sign in for my Roku... |

none of this matter in 10 years when LEO internet is fully implemented and everyone has broadband. there will only be service providers in the sense that you can buy from them for a bulk discount. otherwise, every network will just charge a set fee per month directly to you. i just hope they dont expect everyone to shell out $10 a month like HBO or Netflix for each network |

People are already kind of doing this because Netflix has a few things people want, Amazon has a few others, YouTube Premium, Hulu, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if more companies follow this model, just like Disney did. Eventually you will find yourself paying $200 a month because you needed the 10 subscriptions to get you all the content you want. |

We're in a transitional period for sure....the big factor is this stronghold the pro sports teams has with the big providers (DirecTV, Comcast). If we can get their subscriptions decoupled from blackout laws / regulations. They could all compete and fight it out. We cut the cord a long time ago. We have Netflix. We have prime. We have an Antenna. The NFL still shows over the antenna so we are good there, but we miss a lot of baseball and we miss a lot of hockey. I'd subscribe to MLB.tv and NHL and pay for the season easily, but the fucking blackout laws ruin it. |
