With the quarter I found this morning I have found $95.83 on the ground in 2019. Yes, I keep track. You'd be surprised how much money is just lying around on the ground. When I'm riding my bike I'm like a hawk. I can see a penny on the ground from about ten yards away. My take this year includes a fifty dollar bill and the big score I made in spring right next to Paschen Park when I found a five, then a twenty, and then two singles in the gutter. I circled around the block a couple times to make sure I didn't miss anything. And this doesn't even include what appeared to be about $30 in change that I left on the ground outside a parked car right near Telegram Sam's house because it appeared that some guy was going to cash in his change and then dropped the jar and just said "fuck it". But I figured he might come back and I didn't really consider that fair hunting.

I love to pick up pennies. Especially if they are head side up. That is the premier coin to find.

I do some superstitious things sometimes. For example, the fifty dollar bill I found, I immediately took it to the bank and broke it up. No, now that I think about it I went to lunch and used it to buy Arby's. I do not walk around with U.S. Grant in my pocket. That motherfucker died broke.

Someday maybe you can help Reinsdorf buy a premier free agent.

I found $430 dollars in an unmarked envelop when I worked at the movie theater while cleaning. It paid for my summer class. I actually told my manager when I found it, he told me to keep it when no one came looking for it.

Actually with my need for stretching/flexibility given encroaching old age, it occurred to me that picking up the occasional penny would have an unintended benefit.

The $50 bill thing is odd. For some reason I've preferred fifties over hundreds, until now.

(Yeah, I'm in the old man group that still prefers cash over cards  )

I don't find those descriptions to be mutually exclusive in this context.

A few things:

1. I also love to pick up pennies. I use it as a reminder to be a wise steward of my money and remember not to waste it. Also, taking a second to bend over, it's a hell of a lot easier way to make money than what I do all day.

2. Grant wasn't a pauper when he died but did lose a considerable amount of his wealth. However, his memoirs sold like hotcakes after he died so his family was really well off after he died.

3. I think the $50 bill is the most aesthetically pleasing of all of the paper currency. The picture of Grant is just really wonderful. It's far an away my favorite bill.

4. Arby's is great, just great. I went there yesterday, that was a good use of your found fifty.

It's kinda been my thing to latch on to unintended consequences of getting old. Things I had no idea were coming and would have liked to have known. Ear hair, for example. Bending over to pick up stuff. Who'd have ever guessed that bending over is high grade exercise? Stuff on the ground is really far away, I've come to find out.

So pennies on the ground can kiss my ass.
