On any given team...NBA down to high school...what percentage of shots taken in a game should come from your best player? Or what percentage is too much?

Depends on how good the supporting cast is. The best coached teams make sure theor best player touches the ball virtually every possession though when he is not the PG.

That's one of those "If you have to ask...." questions.

How many dribbles should your point guard take before an assist?

This is analytics. But Kobe proved that if u take too many it can drag ur team down. But I would say in the pros about 20%.

As you filter down to high school, probably about 30-35%%.

At least 25% if the best player is a scorer.

It's an uniformed question and RFDC knows better. The variables are countless and sports is a series of moments full of opportunities, successes, and failures. And every moment leads to the next moment. Do you really believe a scripted amount of shots from your best player will invariably lead to a win?

I will give you guys the backstory of why I asked.....so it is not seen as an uninformed question...was just curious what the thinking was amongst people.

I am helping coach our high school girls basketball team. We have had a complaint from someone that our best player shoots too much. I ran the numbers and our best player is shooting 28% of the time so far this season. I do not think that is out of the ordinary. If anything we could probably stand her to be at like 35-40%.

So I was just curious what you guys thought was an acceptable % for a teams best player to shoot.

You put way too much thought into it.

You should've offered the bag of balls to the complainer and said you're welcome to it if you can do better.

u dont need to explain.

A smart poster will be open-minded enough to answer the fuckin question, like I did. Doesnt matter why u need to know, u just want to know. Period.

And my answer stands to your situation. Go with that and dont listen to anybody else here.

No she isn't a chucker. She is our best 3 pt shooter and can create her own shot. Really the only player we have who can do both.

Part of the byproduct of being a teacher at a small school and having daughters who play sports. There are not a lot of teachers who are interested in coaching girls sports.

Our best player averaged 31%,29%,30% the last 3 years. He averaged 21 a game on 16 shots. Did not seem to excessive.

5-1 so far. Backwater state title is probably out of the question...but we can possibly win our conference and district.
