We all know it was the rage 15 years ago but do people still play home games? My buddies and I used to play 1-2 times per month but can't get enough people anymore. How say you? |

I would love to play. I am over the hold em craze though. I would like a fun dealer calls the next game. |

Low stakes, fun and friendly (well, mostly friendly). Plus players are penalized for such infractions as miscalling hands, belching, farting, or setting food or drink on the game table. |

My son does. Plays hold-em every Tuesday night in a pretty big house game. I used to play in a group but got tired of some of the silly games that got played. It also got too rich for my blood. |

I used to enjoy low limit hold em, but I always hated no limit unless it was something like an online NL10 game where I could just isolate idiots trying to hit inside straights or going all in with QJ suited. But most of the casinos eventually phased out 2-4 or cut it back to one table of regulars. I'm not interested in playing NL against $500 buy ins, if I wanted stress I would just work more. |

It also got too rich for my blood. I used to play in a game with a cop who was the worst gambler ever. He lost his house playing cards. Then he lost his wife. We went around the table playing dealer's choice. One time I brought a friend who wasn't really a card player. He called a game of "baseball". Anyway, the cop was losing badly as usual and he got real snotty. He said, "What the fuck is this kindergarten shit?" I told him to shut the fuck up. The irony is that every time it was the cop's deal he called this idiotic game "5 and 5" where each player got five cards and then there were five community cards that got spit one at a time. You made your best five card hand from the ten cards. What is a good hand in a game like that? I can do simple math so I know that a low full house isn't a particularly strong hand when you have ten cards to choose from, but if you're not used to playing this stupid game, it's difficult to gauge, so this dope had an edge. Talk about kindergarten shit. |

I will typically do a search for the word "panth" or "panther" to see if anyone is shining the PanthSignal. |

I used to play every Monday night from around 2001-03. Then played online a lot until the government cracked down and made it harder to play. I got sick of using sites that would take 4 months to send you a check. Plus with my jobs I just don't have the time to play. About 5 years ago I got a tuition reimbursement check for around $900. I took that money and sat down at the Horseshoe in a pot limit Omaha game. After about 20 minutes I got up and left. I couldn't play correctly. Even if the right call was to put down the $80, all I could think about was losing the money. |

Pacific Poker gave me $25 balance since both of my credit cards were denied and I slowly turned that into $800 or so. Loved those $8 sit and go tournaments. Ended up losing all the money when the Feds shut it down. My buddies and I used to play dealer calls , including baseball, a couple times a winter until we learned about Texas Hold-em and then we started playing every 2-3 weeks. We’d play 3-4 tournaments a night and go from 7 to 1-2 o’clock in the morning. We even turned it into a season with a schedule, standings, and a championship tournament. We even used to host some tournaments in some south side bars during the week. We did that for about 8 months until we realized it was not worth the hassle even though it was rather profitable. Once everyone had kids that all pretty much stopped. If anyone knows of a friendly, low stakes game in the south suburbs that is looking for more people, send me a message. |

I think those games are okay when it's a bunch of friends playing, but when you're playing for real money and there are guys in the game who don't know each other, well, I'd never think of calling anything but a basic stud or draw game or Hold 'Em. That cop calling that "5 and 5" game every time around the table annoyed me because he was the only one really familiar with it. Obviously he liked all the community cards because he was comfortable knowing the nuts hand and he had played the game so much more than anyone else it gave him an edge he didn't have with regular Hold 'em. If we're going to try to take advantage with esoteric games, I can do that too. My friends and I grew up playing a game we called "Snarf" which is a high-low game, spit-draw-spit-twist-threes are wild if you're going high. I could spin that cop's head in a circle with that game, but I wouldn't do it. "Seven Twenty-Seven" is another game we played a lot. I'm very familiar with it, but I wouldn't call it in a serious game with guys I don't know. |

I play every 6 months or so with people I’ve known for 20 years. Games like JORR is describing. It’s fun. |

Yes. That would make you a dick but you know that and that’s good. We do dollars and quarters. |

I haven't in a long time. When I was younger, dealer's choice was a staple at most family parties. Nobody lost more than a few bucks, but everybody "played right" and folded when they should have I always like a game called Guts. Between the Sheets and No Peak were cool as well. Come to think of it, some beers, a jar of spare change, and a deck of cards would make for a fine NYE. |

It was one of those old games Bigfan had arranged through a site. I don’t even remember who it was with me towards the end getting mad but it was an old vet around here. |

Something similar happened to me in a game a college friend and her husband invited me to at their home at the peak of the craze. Her husband had come in 2nd in some $40 tournament in Vegas a few months earlier, so I figured it wasn't a totally newbie game. Hold em sit-n-gos, and I was not playing too hard, but I'd fold every time UTG/UTG+1 and raise 3x from the button or button-1 with about the top 40%. Should have gotten my ass kicked in with my loose play, but won one, deliberately lost the other, was never invited back. I got the impression that raising without the nuts was not considered friendly. |

Used to play a lot in the early 70's. My Ol'man was a gambler in the '20's...he taught me a lot.The games where in Summit at a Womans' named Tia a heavier older woman that had butterfly rhinestone glasses we called her Tie Rod she'd skim the pot for booze and sandwiches . Well it started on Friday and end sometime Sunday. Guys would sit and wait for a seat to open up I looked over once and there was the Summit Police Chief ( guess the game wouldn't be busted ) my buddyy Ray would ask for a new deck if he lost 4 games in a row ...used to piss me off!Tie Rod had a miniature poodle I called Fluffy ,well one night a cowboy was playing and just having awful luck. Fluffy keep jumping on his lap he had a flush and got beat by a Full Boat ..Fluffy jump on his lap he picked it up and threw Fluffy out the window Tie was so pissed she closed the game for a month! Well I won my share and lost a few.One time after 38 hours I won $20 what the fuck comes to like 52 cents an hour That's when I went to the horses under two minutes you know the out come 3 or 4 hours and your done |

Need something to do so looked at Bovada but my card is not accepted and I'm weary about bitcoin. I have no history of bitcoin use and the exchange they recommend had it for sale much higher than it is currently worth. Anyone have a site they currently use? |

With a bunch of people at home, is there a site that you can play for free but host your own table? I did that a number of years ago with guys from a different site. We all went to the site at the same time and played at the same table. It was a lot of fun. |
