My wife is currently doing this at the high school she works at. "Yes it's super crazy and weird. I didn't know how lifelike it would be. There were people screaming "help" and "please no" and crying and lots of shooting. And I haven't heard anything in a bit but still locked in office. It is way creepier than I expected." |

Not joking about your wife but I guess it’s more useful than the dumb fallout or tornado ones we had. |

I've thought for a while that the generation that has spent their entire childhood doing "Rampaging gunman/gunwoman is killing your classmates" drill will have far different views on guns than previous generations. |

I spent my entire childhood bent over in a coat closet with my head between my knees on Tuesdays at 10:30 but I don't want to infringe upon your natural right to a suitcase nuke. |

I think you're going to be proven correct on this. I doubt it. Maybe he will, but this just seems like one of those things that is going to stay a hyper partisan issue for a long time. I'm pretty sure the rednecks aren't changing their views on guns because of these drills. |

The children of those rednecks likely aren't going to change their thoughts on hand guns and hunting rifles. They may on assault rifles. But who's to say Cletus's kid even goes to school? |

His school told his parents that on active shooter drill day he should stay home because he's scaring all the other kids. Apparently, when they all went and hid in a closet he started screaming over and over again "we're all gonna die!". |

We had one earlier this year during my prep period (about this time) and I sat locked in my room with the appropriate cards in window and under door. I was evacuated outside and helped other teachers supervise their children till all schools were evacuated. Noticed which teachers had not made it out and was put in charge of monitoring who might be missing since I had no students of my own. No live fire or anything else this time...we did do this last year and had live fire on an institute day when it was only teachers. I just see it as another part of my job that is a result of the society we are in today...I also agree with Brick in that students who go through these will have different views than my generation has with regards to firearms. |

Meanwhile the rest of the world is laughing at us because we think insurance regulated training days will remedy the issue in America where everyone and their mom is armed with lethal force. |

Legally, you’re right. Culturally a lot has already changed. Current youthful and future generation aren’t as enthused or complacent about guns |

Do you think redneck children had the same thoughts as their parents on gay marriage? That was a pretty huge cultural shift in our generation. Now, maybe the redneck kids still don't agree with it but that goes to show that they aren't very powerful. |

I think they probably are pretty close to their parents with their thoughts on gay marriage. If they aren't very powerful then why don't we just ban guns now? Why wait? |

FavreFan wrote: I think they probably are pretty close to their parents with their thoughts on gay marriage. So why did you cite them?FavreFan wrote: If they aren't very powerful then why don't we just ban guns now? Why wait? I'm not specifically talking about "banning guns" but basically people my age and above, including myself, don't want to ban guns now. I was in high school for Columbine but I don't think it really had the impact for me that it would if I was doing active shooter drills as a 1st grader. It never truly felt like my school was at risk. It certainly seems like all schools are now.
