I think I am going to need a new Dryer. Anyone buy one recently they are happy with? The one that came with this house is from 1979 and I think t may have died tonight. Ill find out for sure hopefully tomorrow. Though the guy who looked at my washing machine back in April said if it breaks down, to try and get it fixed because they don't make machines that well anymore. |

I just bought an oven from these guys. They have a lot of used appliances in really, really good condition, I think they pull from bank sales, etc. Very reasonably priced: AB Best Appliance 3137 N. Central 773 736 7108 (Go to Central Gyros two doors south for the best gyro in the city. (that's how I stumbled on this place.) Ask them to crisp it on the grill.) |

The repair guy recommended getting the dryer repaired? FWIW, We bought a pretty nice name brand display model at Home Depot at about 40% off list. I can’t imagine it’s worth paying to have a 40 year old unit repaired. |

We bought a house with a 35 year old Kenmore in it two years ago. I will repair that model for as long as possible. They don't make them like that anymore. No computers to fail, a metal drum for the clothes and four drying cycles is all anyone really needs. |

The cheapest you can buy a new washer or dryer is close to $400. Repair guy on an old machine is $100 for trip charge plus parts and maybe a little more for labor. Some of the old appliances were made to last 20+ years. The new stuff is typically not worth repairing. A working used dryer can be had for $100 to $200 used. That's only if you don't want to repair what you have. A used dryer is a gamble. The best scenario is someone is upgrading and wants to sell the old working unit. My appliance repair guy says to avoid front load washers because he doesn't repair them because they are a major pain to work on. The last thing I would say is that I think a common complaint that people have is that the high efficiency machines don't use enough water to properly wash clothes. If you should someday win the lottery you could pull an Allen Iverson by only buying new clothes and not washing the old clothes. |

Clothes dryers are so stupid simple, and a 1979 model even more so- motor, belt, really easy drum bearing and felt pads that can still be bought new for like $20. yes, a gas valve and a couple of switches- door switch, flame sensor, maybe a timer I have two electric dryers and will never need to buy a new one. Appliancepartspros.com has videos on how to open them up and replace all the parts, and good prices/fast shipping My Mom wanted to buy a new pair, she never had a new set in 80 years, and can afford one. Decent GE simple top loader were $600+ each at HomeDepot. |

Turns out wife dropped a pencil into the lint trap when she cleaned it out other day. 50 dollar service charge was all it cost me. |
