CHICAGO — Illinois now has 32 cases of COVID-19, including a young child in Chicago, officials announced Thursday.

Quote:
All events that are estimated to have 250 or more, private or public, should be canceled or postponed until May 1, Gov. JB Pritzker announced in a said.

The governor mandated that all events of 1,000 or more are canceled immediately. Pritzker said officials will use force to break up any events in the state over 1,000 people.

Sounds like a suspension of the 1st amendment. Can this be legal?

You really think fat Pritzker has the authority to halt our free assembly? And threaten force to do it? This is EXACTLY why we have the Second Amendment and an armed citizenry is critical. I don't give a flying fuck whether his intentions are "good".

He didn't say they should use force to break up events. He said they will.

He's not the only one to do it. And yes, the government does have the authority to do this in an emergency.

 No. That's why we have a Constitution. Government will fuck you straight up the ass and use "emergency" as the reason to do so.

No he doesn't. But he's doing something, he's protecting us, he cares unlike that guy in the white house.

It's stupid why does it matter if it's a 1000. Why not 100? They aren't closing DG South as far as I know.

Did you know that it's impossible to contract the virus in a crowd of 250 or less? But if it's 251, you're gonna catch it for sure.

Seriously, when you hear stuff like this it makes you wonder what's really going on.

Which other fundamental rights are eligible for suspension? Can they refuse a speedy trial because a judge can be exposed to someone on trial who has been exposed to thousands in jail? Can we suspend the election because changing leadership during a emergency is a bad idea? Worked for caesar (for a while).

You know why Irish chili only has 239 beans?

Because if it had one more it would be too farty (must be said in a brought to get the joke)

It's not difficult to understand that they don't want large crowds to reduce the chances of MANY people contracting the coronavirus. The arbitrary number is used so people can understand what they mean.

Speedy trial rights have been tolled for quite some time. Just ask the folks that have been in jail for the past 2 or 3 years awaiting trial.

Don't see you starting alarmist threads about that for some reason.........

Just about everything. Maybe, as that tyrant suspended habeas corpus and it was upheld by the Supreme Court. Yes, most definitely

The executive can easily slide into dictatorship and has been leaning that way for at least 20 years

It happens all the time. Primarily because excessive bonds are given in cases the state can't win. Can't lose them either if you delay trial for years until the person accepts a plea deal. Now the state/county has reduced the bonds. BRogue doesn't like that.

That was certainly tyrannical. There's no doubt about it. Ultimately an American citizen exercised his Second Amendment rights.
