With schools closing across the city and suburbs, a lot of kids will go without food and a safe place to go during the day. Do you know of any places that can fill these needs? |

Something they are doing here in NC is having the bus drivers deliver meals to kids on their route they know are in need. Not sure about shelter options unfortunately. |

Not in your area Nas but HyVee is coordinating with Peoria Public Schools to provide daily lunches for kids in need. A few of the area restaurants are offering the same thing. I'm sure something along those lines will happen up there. |

Isn't it fair to say that is the fault of the parent(s)/guardians in some instances? |

Have heard of schools setting up meals for the kids anyways. Still a solution needed of picking them up. |

One of my cooks works for a big catering company that had all events cancelled. One works at a the cafeteria at Malcolm X. One works for a food hall. There is going to be a lot of fresh food in the garbage by the end of this week. |

Peoria Matt wrote: Yes, in theory. And what about kids from parents that don't? That's who should receive them. Wishful thinking, but those who are able to provide for their children should do their part in lessening the burden of the government. It all comes down to accepting responsibility and not relying on the nanny state. |

Hungry kids just want to eat and unfortunately for many children that only meal was school lunch. With schools closed they go hungry. This is not about having bad parents held accountable, this is about kids eating. |

I'm talking about those who can feed their kids do so and ease the burden of the government, thus allowing those who need the food to receive it for a longer period (if need be). |

If the Parents have the means, clearly the solution is to let those kids starve to death. |

I am sure at least 2 of those companies will, but without a coordinated system it is really hard to turn around perishables like that without a lot of waste. |
