It sucks and our country took a step backwards today by electing a moron but it will ultimately be fine. There is still power to stop Trump if he doesn't do a good job.

Agreed. We didn't elect a dictator. A government of checks and balances. For MANY Americans they're already not in ideal situations and losing out. They took a shot. I disagree with them but I get it.

Over/under on the use of Executive order in a Trump presidency?

Less than FDR.

Less than Obama or Bush.

Are there Checks and Balances for launching a nuclear payload?

Not according to the 60 minutes story a few weeks back.

The President gives the order, the General obeys the order.

You and Brick are correct. I do not really want to hear complaining however if Trump becomes some sort of executive order machine even if it is only to reverse previous orders.

This belief of a nuclear WW3 was one of the more preposterous memes of the cycle.

he'll be castrated like most presidents are. during the campaign, the hopefuls always have a big mouth and are full of promises.

people seem to forget how hopeless the 2000 election was. at least we won't have to suffer through a shitty recount this time.

we can't get much worse as a country than we are now; and if 8 years of W led us to Obama, maybe this could lead us to the better half in 2020.

As long as he doesn't have a button to push that launches them all and he does not have one then there are checks and balances.

If we were ever on the brink of nuclear war it is a much different discussion then him waking up one day and being mad and saying "Just nuke them!".

The fact is that if Trump was to ever even consider launching a nuclear weapon he probably is going to be ignored and probably forcibly removed from power.

By the time he launches one it would be too late.

Trump would never nuke his BFF Putin. After all, his hackers rigged the election for Trump.

Same as Obama. For every one Obama wrote, Trump will write one to repeal it.

The potential 15-25 million folks that have insurance coverage solely because of the ACA, not to mention a few million more on Medicaid, have no rational basis - nor do you, I might add - to think that they'll be 'fine'.

I'm not sure if people truly understand how things are going to get with 1 party running the federal and nearly all state governments.

Except for the state part it will look a lot like Obama's first two years with Reid and Pelosi. Elections have consequences.

Yep.

If it isn't working, there's another election for Congress in 2 years.

Except 2008 looked nothing like 2016.

We're better off now than we were in 2008.

We will be "fine" in the sense that domestic life won't change much. I still have fears about foreign policy. I'm trying to be optimistic and feel better than I did last night.

That said, to dismiss other people's worries out of hand seems a bit arrogant to me. There are legitimate fears out there.
