Going to start planning a road trip to visit my mother in Charlotte probably next month. Suggestions on things to see out that way? My initial thought was to drive to Hagerstown , MD and then get up and see Gettysburg and Antietam in one day and I’d like to hit The Greenbrier heading south. Probably spend half a day in Asheville on the way home as we really are interested in retiring in that general vicinity. Thankful we didn’t buy a condo there and bought our current money pit instead. Anyway I’m sure my wife is going to hate my ideas. The Rock and Roll and NFL hall of fames made my short list but pretty sure I’d get the old “fuck no “ on those and may not be worth the trouble.

If you go to Gettysburg, get a personal guide. It's like $60. Before you go to Gettysburg, read Killer Angels

If it is open, Biltmore Estate in Asheville is worth a half a day. Stop at 12 Bones outside of town for real BBQ ribs, not that stupid NC pulled pork mess.

We are not doing the east coast route any more. Going to spend an afternoon in Asheville on the way down as we have some interest in possibly retiring in that area but have never spent time there. Definitely steer clear of Asheville whistler.

Another option is to find the schedule of the free speakers that give lectures at different sites throughout the battlefield. We had a retired professor give us a 30 minute or so talk about Pickett's Charge and a college grad student give us a tour of Little Round Top. Many people gave a tip but that is up to you.

Gettysburg requires at least a day. We went on bus tour, went to a museum, the two lectures, and hiked around. We ate at General Pickett's Buffet and it was the worst buffet I've ever been to. Definitely going to take our kids there in the future.

Well I went before T-Bone got there so I can have it all to myself.

It was a great trip! Loved it. Went to some beaches, and checked out a bunch of historical battlefields and monuments. Confederate monuments too. Truly awesome and nostalgic. Amazing what these guys went through. No technology, just horses and swords and cannons and shit. Really makes you think how life really was at that time.

T-Bone I think will like it!

We are leaving here on a Friday afternoon and just going straight there and straight back with a stop in Asheville. Back here by Wednesday afternoon. I don’t really think we will do much fun stuff. I need to go through some more of my dads stuff and bring some more things home including a shotgun which I had no other way of getting back here. Should be able to see my brothers family for an afternoon as well which would be nice. My mother lives in a 55 and older community so we will likely keep to ourselves and won’t be a lot of wild parties.

Morty: "This is the home stretch. Tomorrow's the election!"

Kramer: "Right. Yeah. The polls close after dinner, three o'clock. But then when we win, the celebration goes all night until the break of eight p.m."

That sounds like my life all the time. I rarely stay up past 10. When you get up at 3:30 to golf on weekends one can’t stay up too late.

Had a nice visit. Drove down to Knoxville last Friday and stayed the night. We got up early the next day and the plan was to have brunch in Asheville but it was very cloudy and foggy and the place we wanted to go was a rooftop farm to table spot with a view of the mountains and that would have been a wash so we headed to my moms. Had a nice visit and got to go in the boat and tubed with my niece and nephew Monday. We decided to drive the 13 hrs yesterday and get home half a day early. Wasn’t really that bad. We left at 4:30 and got home at 4:30. The wife gave me a 4 hour break in the middle which was nice. Took the Virginia, West Virginia and Northern KY route on the way back. Just gorgeous country. Much more up and down driving but it was wonderful.

Did you find any Confederate flags down there? They were all sold out when I went.

I dont know how the hell you did the drive in 1 day and STILL got home in the afternoon. If it was me I would started at noon and drove for 6 or 7 hours before getting a hotel in Ohio or some shit.
