From what I've heard, they were offloading fireworks from a ship onto a pier that had a warehouse with nitrates. Fireworks caught fire (there was a fire burning for about 10-15 minutes at first) and then that fire spread and cooked off the nitrates giving the main explosion |

This will cripple Lebanon. Their economy was already in collapse with a currency crisis, fuel shortage, etc. The Syrian Civil War cost them their only land border open for trade and this port was where the rest of their trade came in and out of. |

Seems like too large of a blast to be fireworks, although I’m no expert. Turned on CNN for coverage—Trump bashing. Switched to Fox—Jill Biden interview. They are missing this story—looks like thousands of casualties. |

Lebanon's PM just spoke saying he will reveal details on the warehouse which has been there holding the nitrate since 2014. He came into power in January and wants to hold officials from the last gov responsible |
